Allow me to introduce you to Katie Possage. A free spirit…a down to earth babe…and the epitome of a Free People girl. I first met Katie when she was working at Free People Walnut Street here in Philadelphia. I always admired her style every time I was browsing the store. She has that way about her that anything she could possibly put on would look cool, no matter what the garment. It only makes sense that her FP Me profile and Instagram would be oozing with style inspiration.
I was really excited to feature Katie because we had planned to do the shoot in my neck of the woods in Philly. I’ve mentally compiled a list of cool locations to shoot at, and I was finally able to put that list to use. This was the first time I had ever hung out with Katie, but our conversations were as if we were already friends.
Inspired by festival season, Katie styled three looks using some of our new product that just hit the site. Read below to find out more about her, and to hear what festival she is excited about this year!
How long have you been working at Free People?
About 4 almost 5 years now. I started part time while I was in college and fell deeper in love with brand than I knew possible. I’ve worked with some of the most amazing and inspiring ladies which has made my experience more valuable than words. Working for this company has brought me so many lasting friendships and has created a new way of viewing and appreciating life that I will always be thankful for.
What is your favorite part about your job?
No matter what my position with FP has been I’ve always loved the connections I’ve made with people. I have no problem whether at work or not, walking up to someone I’ve just met and striking up a conversation. Some of the women I’ve had the chance to interact with have the most interesting stories. I’ve been lucky enough to turn these encounters into friendships, and I love being able to build on these while also doing my job!!
Your FP Me profile is one of my favorites. Do you have a favorite place to take pictures at, or any tips for people who are new to FP Me?
I don’t necessarily have a go to spot for my style pics. I have learned however to not be afraid to ask someone to snap a shot of my outfit if happen to be feeling confident that day. Days off I usually spend venturing around the city, which becomes a great opportunity for some FP Me shots!
I heard you have a cat named Ashley Veronica. Tell us about her.
I happen to be a proud momma to the world’s cutest kitty! I’ve turned into such a cat lady these days and this little babe just happens to make it so easy for me to shower her with WAY too much love and attention. My favorite question is when people ask me why I named her Ashley; it’s simple really, she looks like an Ashley. Human names for animals just also happen to be my favorite.
How do you enjoy spending your days off?
Well first off, sleeping in. Who doesn’t love going to bed without setting their alarm clock for the next day? After that I usually find myself in my studio or exploring around the city. Getting out of your comfort zone and exploring somewhere new is always liberating. Recently I’ve been all about Sunday brunch. It’s the one day I know I always have off with my dude, we’ve been trying out different spots every weekend. It’s almost turned into a little game to see how many places we can adventure to.
You went to school for design. How do you work creativity into your daily life?
It’s been rough working full time but I’ve made sure to make it a priority into my week. I set up a small studio space and after work and on my days off I’m always working on new designs and building on ideas. Recently I’ve started making pieces for myself to wear which I never seemed to have much time to do while in school. It’s satisfying after I finish a piece to incorporate it with my FP wardrobe!
What is your main source of inspiration?
I wouldn’t be able to pinpoint one source of inspiration, I find it everywhere I go every day. It happens to be a huge plus working with extremely stylish and beautiful ladies. The women I’ve worked with over the years have had huge impacts on me. I’ve become less timid about my style and definitely embraced who I am and what I want to portray.
If you had to wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
This is probably the hardest question you can ask any FP girl. Recently I’ve been OBSESSED with overalls, and when I say obsessed I mean I’m wearing them at least once a week. I think it’s my inner 90’s child that is totally loving this carefree, easygoing look. A good graphic and ankle boots is all you need to rock any overall in my book.
You can always find these three things in your fridge:
NACHOS NACHOS and more NACHOS. Just kidding, well not really. I have and obsession with Mexican food, if it’s not a Mexican fiesta I’m usually experimenting with a new recipe here and there. The older I get the more I realize how important learning to cook can be. On my days off you can usually find me force feeding my boyfriend new recipes I dig up!
What does a perfect weekend consist of for you?
Relaxation and quality time with my loved ones. I never realized how much I would miss my family or friends till I wasn’t able to see them as much as I wanted. The harder it gets to schedule time with my loved ones the more I seem to appreciate it. Especially with my momma dukes, who doesn’t love some quality time with their favorite lady!
What are your three favorite Instagram accounts to follow at the moment?
I’ve been wanting to run away to the west coast for a while now. I was stumbling through blogs and found some super stylish west coast babes that I can’t help but follow. My favorites are pursenboots (a stylist for some awesome companies including for love and lemons), ivanarevic (a west coast surfer babe with some amazing style shots), and littleblackboots (she never fails with her styling, always an inspiration).
What kind of music have you recently been listening to?
Ugh I’m the worst at this question. Those who know me know I have a slight obsession with my girl Ke$ha (don’t ask me why but I’m addicted). I also just love getting lost in a fun song, you can usually find me dancing around in my own little world. Recently I’ve been loving on Phantogram’s new album (their last was a total hit in my book), and a newer group called Touch Sensitive. Anything great for driving is always a plus, who doesn’t love getting lost in a playlist while their counting down the miles!
If you could pick any festival to attend this season, which one would you choose? Why?
I’ve always wanted to travel off to Coachella. Ever since my road trip across country
I’ve been obsessing over west coast everything. Their style and way of life is so appealing to me, I can’t help but stalk all the best blogs every year to catch up on everything that’s happening there.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
This another hard question for me that I’m sure most can relate to as being equally as challenging. I don’t know where exactly I’ll be in life but I know I want to be happy. I’m all about taking opportunities as they come and not taking anything for granted. It wouldn’t hurt to be living by the beach on the sunny coast of California though, definitely a goal for my future (oh and maybe another cat, Ashley could use a sibling).
What does being ‘free’ mean to you?
Being free to me means being truly happy. It’s probably the simplest way you can put it, but if you can be happy and content with everything and everyone in your life you are then free to be happy with who you are. Not compromising yourself is one the best things you can do for your well being, something I’ve always tried to look out for no matter where I’m at with my life.
It was a pleasure, Katie! Thank you!
