The Goat Farm Arts Center

On every trip I take, I leave a little piece of my heart behind.  There are few things I love more than traveling and discovering new places – but at the same time, when I return home I find myself feeling…restless. Atlanta in particular has opened my eyes to some incredible people and places, and it makes me wonder… what else is out there that I have yet to see?  What hidden treasures are hiding in the deep corners of the earth, waiting to be uncovered, lived in, loved? We live in such a massive world, and we have so little time to explore it all, to take it all in…

One such place that makes me feel this way? The Goat Farm Arts Center.  We were lucky enough to spend a few hours at this incredible compound, and when I left, yes, a little piece of my heart stayed behind. The Goat Farm states as its mission: “Pushing culture forward through Built Environments that augment interaction and excite new thinking.”  Located just around the corner from our Free People White Provision store, this piece of land is home to abandoned and re-purposed buildings that house artist galleries, studio spaces, living spaces, and more. In addition, there is an on-site organic farm (and yes, there are goats), and a cafe/library full of old books I could have spent hours looking through.  As their Facebook page explains, “by acquiring derelict property, rehabbing it & making it productive, the Goat Farm provides a potential national model for industrial re-purposing in dense metropolitan areas. More than 470 enterprises & creatives, which together employ over 130 people, occupy space at the Goat Farm.” If you are ever in Atlanta, I urge you to check this place out… they’ve got something quite special going on.

Somehow I have never been to Goat Farms Art Center, and I have been to Atlanta several times. It’s officially on my list for our next trip.

I love the idea of repurposing industrial areas that otherwise would be left to waste. I especially love the idea of using those places as areas for artists to explore and experiment with their creativity! Thank you for sharing this wonderful spot to visit and your gorgeous photographs!!!
