UPDATE: This post originally ran on March 24th but we can’t get enough of this delicious, healthy smoothie so we wanted to share it again!
When winter turns to spring on the outside, something changes within us, as well.
We begin to feel a little lighter, a little freer, and a little more at ease, as we start to act on the new
urge to get rid of any heaviness we’ve acquired over the long season we’ve just endured. Our bodies yearn to go through a similar detoxification process. The ancient practice of Ayurveda tells us that we need bitter, pungent, and astringent foods to help purge our bodies of excess fats and proteins — and this smoothie does exactly that.
This smoothie has kale to up the health of your liver (the ultimate detox organ), apple & pear to help detoxify by filling your body with water and fiber, lemon to help stimulate digestion, sprouts to supply you protein and more fiber, ginger to calm your belly and further detoxify, and agave nectar to help fight inflammation and aid your immune system.
2 medium kale leaves
Juice from 1/2 lemon
1/4 cup alfalfa sprouts (find out how to grow your own sprouts!)
1 teaspoon ginger root
2 teaspoons agave nectar
1/2 cup ice
Directions: Place ingredients into a blender, and blend until you reach a smooth consistency. Enjoy immediately. Smile… it’s spring. :)
