You may recall the Backyard Session we filmed in Atlanta featuring the amazing Family and Friends band. Following the full band’s performance, we coaxed vocalist Casey Harper (who is also the assistant store manager at Free People White Provision), to sing a little solo song for us. This girl is so incredibly talented, and she hushed us all into silence with her beautiful voice and gentle guitar strumming.
She reminds me of Jade Castrinos, looks-wise and also in the way she carries herself when she performs – so full of positive energy, a big smile on her face, and her love of what she is doing pouring out of her soul. Watch a solo performance from Casey and get to know more about her below!
Music has always been a huge part of my life. My dad has been on the road playing music most of his life, and seeing how rewarding and possible that lifestyle was for him made me want it for myself! I believe your environment impacts you in many ways, and mine helped cultivate a love and passion for music.
Why do you love Free People?
Being a creative, I love creative freedom and expression. Free People offers people like me a chance to express myself in the day to day. But it’s not just the clothing that I love – Free People isn’t just a clothing brand. It is a culture that speaks to music-making gypsy souls just like mine saying, “you are free to be anything and everything you are and will be.”
How would you describe your personal style?
That’s tough because I have so many different styles depending on what I’m doing. In the store, you’ll see me wearing a lot of basics. Overalls, stripes, and my floral Doc Martens – perfect items for working with my hands and being up on ladders. When I’m going out or playing a show, I turn into a gypsy queen with sheer lace maxis, floppy hats, and layered necklaces. In Free People terms, I am a 50/50 blend of Lou and Meadow!
How does your personal style relate to your music?
When I play music, I feel free – all the pent up frustration or expression can finally be released into one magical moment. That is exactly what I feel like when I put on that dress that I love, or that hat that completes my outfit. I make it my goal in life to be true to myself in every regard whether it be with the music I play or the clothing in my closet. Feeling free in my own skin is my highest priority.
Tell us about the coolest experience you’ve ever had with your band.
Back in January, we released our first EP. We spent countless nights in the studio recording through red eye sessions trying our best to make something we could be proud of. It all lead up to our EP release show at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, GA, where our dearest family and friends (get it?) came out to support us and be apart of a celebration of such a wonderful milestone in our journey. My face was sore the next day from all the smiling I did! It was a dream come true!
What is your favorite thing about FP Me?
Every Free People piece can be worn at least a hundred different ways! There is so much individual expression in coming up with an outfit and it is so inspiring to see how all Free People girls are so different.
