Tangerine

They’re the longest days of the year…so why do they slip away so fast? We hold onto them like grains of sand that slide through our fingers – their presence is fleeting, almost intangible. Each day brings with it a prism of colors; the purple haze of dawn’s first light, the golden rays of magic hour, the rose glow as the sun takes its final bow.   Indigo, chartreuse, tangerine.  I want to bottle up each of these colors and keep them on a shelf so I can look at them all winter long.  Pull out their corks and let little bits of their light out to brighten those dark days.  Yes, this time of year I see the world in technicolor dreams.

“Tangerine, Tangerine, Living reflection from a dream;
I was her love, she was my queen, And now a thousand years between.”

– Led Zeppelin

some of these look identical to the work of alexandra valenti…imitation is flattery but without recognition its stealing : (

@sarah and @amanda — shae detar has been doing work like this for quite some time now. you should check her website out. she’s an artist of her own right.

..or we could say that Valenti copies Shae Detar. Valenti´s work has a bit different vibe, but I think there could be Shae Detar´s and Sally Mann´s influence in her work. Anyway, I admire Shae Detar and her work!! Love to see her pictures here!

Anyone that knows Shae, knows that she has been creating these images and using this technique long before Veneti. People shouldn’t make negative comments without knowing Shae and seeing her work from years ago. I admire Shae’s work and her dedication to her art. Great job on these photos…they are beautiful!

Thanks @alexa and @meg for defending me, I greatly appreciate that, it’s a bummer that people feel the need to comment without researching first. Oh well. ;)

@sarah and @amanda I began painting on photos as a teenager in the 1990’s…I hadn’t even heard of Alexandra until the last 2 years and I obviously had been painting on photos long before that. I respect her as an artist, but my inspiration for painting on photos and came long before I ever saw her work…people like Peter Beard come to mind, and old victorian painted photos were huge inspirations. My portfolio of work on my website is pretty clear proof anyhow, that we are quite different artists.

Yes, I’ve been following Shae Detar’s work for many years and she developed this style in her own right. If anything, she has helped inspire a lot of Valenti’s work. Both are talented photographers, but it is unfair to accuse Detar of copying when that simply isn’t true, especially if you are familiar with her entire catalog of work. Beautiful photos.

Just because one artist chooses to use a particular medium does not exclude all other artists from using it as well. Bravo Shae!

Trains do#n182&7;t cover their capital and operating costs — they rely upon subsidies. Megabus does cover its costs.If the government paid two-thirds the cost of buying and operating my automobile, guess what, I’d sell my 10-year-old car and buy a Porsche.
