Free People & Willow Wood Present Backyard Sessions: Local Natives

I’m still pinching myself to make sure it was real.  We first met Local Natives in Atlanta at Shaky Knees, and when we introduced ourselves, they immediately brought up our backyard sessions. We had tried to set one up at Shaky Knees that didn’t work out, but they told us they really wanted to do one.  Cut to next month: They were playing at Firefly Music Festival, just a little over an hour outside of Philadelphia.  Arrangements were made, and the Thursday the festival began we were driving down to Dover with our friends Willow Wood, and acoustic guitars in hand.  Since meeting the girls behind Willow Wood back in Austin, we’ve been partnering with them to produce some of our backyard sessions, and our luck worked out perfectly that they were in NYC and able to make it down for this session.

I can’t say enough good things about the five guys who make up Local Natives – Taylor, Kelcey, Ryan, Matt, and Nik. It’s incredibly refreshing to work with a band as successful as they are, who are so humble and appreciative of everything that comes their way… not a single air of pretentiousness here.  They felt like old friends, happy to play us in ping pong and foosball following the session and hang out for a little while before we made the trip back to Philly.  We left even bigger fans of the band than we were to begin with, if that is even possible – thank you guys, for being the sweethearts that you are, and for this incredible performance of the song “You and I” off of 2013’s Hummingbird.

Thank you Local Natives, Firefly, and Willow Wood!
