3 Brand New Variations Of Avocado Toast

In the world of soul-satisfying, easy to prepare food, nothing compares to avocado toast. Say the two words together — “Avocado. Toast.” — to any number of people and your assertion will likely be met with “ohhs”, “ahhs”, and “oh man, yes” — or some variation of the three. If a toast-based dish could have a cult following, this one would, and for good reason.

If you’ve never enjoyed the wonder that is avocado toast, let me explain it to you: It’s avocado. On toast. Boom, done. A ridiculously simple idea: The buttery goodness of the perfect avocado sitting atop expertly toasted bread and topped with salt and cracked black pepper, well, it doesn’t get much better than that. But (theoretically) there are only so many times you can eat a two-ingredient meal before you start to wonder what else could be added. While I’m not out to mess with perfection, today I’m sharing a few variations that I think give the original a run for it’s money.

Avo Toast

Avocado & Apricot

Ingredients:

Fresh bread
Sliced avocado
Apricot preserves
Oil of your choice (I like olive or truffle)

Avo Toast

Toast the bread. Mash the avocado on top of the toasted bread and dot with preserves and a drizzle of oil. Eat and enjoy.

Avo Toast

Avocado Caprese

Ingredients:

Fresh bread
Sliced avocado
Sliced tomato
Fresh mozzarella
Fresh basil leaves
Olive oil
Black pepper

Avo Toast

Thickly slice the bread and toast it. Top the toasted bread with the avocado, tomato slices, mozzarella, and a few basil leaves. Drizzle the olive oil over top and serve.

Avo Toast

Spicy Avocado & Tomato

Ingredients:

Fresh bread
Mashed Avocado
Queso fresco
Fresh tomato
Small bunch of cilantro, chopped
1 small habenero pepper
Gloves (optional, but recommended)

Avo Toast

While the bread is toasting, mash the avocado and slice the tomato. Top the toasted bread with the avocado, sliced tomato, and chopped cilantro. Thinly slice the pepper, seeds and all (I recommend wearing kitchen gloves to do this in order to protect your hands. Thoroughly wash your hands after handling the pepper, whether you wear gloves or not.) With the gloves still on, add the sliced pepper to the toast and dot with queso fresco. Serve with a fork and knife.

I first discovered the wonders of avocado toast while visiting some friends in Paris 5 or so years ago. When I came home, my family just sort of stared at me at the breakfast table, as if I had an extra head growing off of my shoulders, as I spread an avocado onto some bread began munching away. It was still pretty new to everyone back then, but I love how it’s becoming so popular. I love the Mexican twist with the added jalapeno and cilantro… can’t wait to give that one a try for my breakfast tomorrow!

In my country, we don’t put salt & pepper on avocadoes, but we eat it plain. My favourite avocado toast is with ham and mayo, it’s the best breakfast in the universe :D

I agree, avocado toast is the best. I love it with salt and pepper and a really good tomato (easy this time of year). Sometimes I add ghee as well- I mean, you need to incorporate it into your diet somewhere, right?

The pepper in your picture for the third recipe is a jalapeno, not a habanero. Habaneros are *extremely* spicy – like, I wouldn’t make this recipe with one, and I’m from Austin, Texas. Just be careful! =)

My aunt and I made delicious sandwiches the other day:
-Fresh bakery french bread
-Olive oil
-Salt & pepper
-Tomatoes from the garden
-Parmesan cheese
= DELICIOUS

I studied abroad in Florence, Italy in 2012 and obviously fell completely in love with the Italian lifestyle (who wouldn’t?!) and my aunt (a dreamy fine artist- jenniferclement.com) has gone to Tuscany multiple times just to paint! And, therefore, we both acquired extreme soft spots for Italian inspired meals…

After seeing this post (and emailing it to her to see if she wants to make some right now! lol), I think we need to try the Avocado Caprese!!!
