Five Things To Do Before Summer Ends

Summer may be coming to a close, but it’s not over yet.Did you really do everything on your summer bucket list? I sure didn’t. This gorgeous season always seems to pass too quickly, and between all the weekends packed with plans, summer holidays, and afternoons spent just soaking it all in, the days can slip through our fingers at an alarming rate. Before you know it, summer fades from view. As much as I’m anticipating autumn (especially the cooler weather), these last few sun-soaked afternoons are just begging to be put to good use.

So pack up your car, your bike, your backpack and get out there because there’s so much more to be done…

Take a road trip

End of Summer

While I have dreams of one day taking a cross country journey, a weekend road trip can be just as fulfilling. Pick a destination that’s a few hours away, throw some blankets and pillows in the backseat (and maybe a tent), and just go. Whether you’re traveling alone or with a companion, road trips are epitome of summer and an amazing way to recharge. Check out a new city you’ve been meaning to visit, head to the shore for the last few beach days, visit a friend you haven’t seen in ages. Whatever you plan to do, be sure to make some stops along the way. The Roadside America app is a great way to discover weird and wonderful roadside attractions that you might otherwise pass by.

Visit a farm

End of Summer

Summer is the perfect time to see where your food comes from and truly feel thankful for the bounty of the season. Pay a visit to your local farm or farmer’s market to talk one on one with the people responsible for bringing you fresh produce each week. Even better, see if they accept volunteers. Nothing makes you appreciate a meal more than the knowledge of how much work goes into putting food on your table.

Go out for ice cream or “ice cream”

End of Summer

When was the last time you had an honest-to-goodness ice cream cone? And I’m not talking about a few surreptitious spoonfuls from the half-pint in your freezer (guilty). If you avoid dairy, check listings for parlors that serve dairy-free and vegan options — more and more ice cream counters are offering alternatives to the traditional these days. Before summer is over, make a date of it and go out for a treat. Sure it’s not healthy, but a little indulgence every now and then is good for the soul.

Head to the beach

End of Summer

Whether you live close by or need to make a road trip out of it, resolve to see some water this summer. Long days spent at the shore are the epitome of summer to me, and what I look forward to most when warm weather finally arrives. Pack up your cooler, grab a few friends, and make the most of the few remaining beach-worthy days.

Sleep under the stars

End of Summer

One of the greatest things about late summer? No mosquitoes and a sky full of stars. Take advantage of the still-warm and bug-free nights by sleeping under the open sky. My siblings and I used to camp out, piling sleeping bags and pillows on our big trampoline in the backyard of my childhood home, and those memories are some of my most favorite. If you have a backyard, take advantage, if not, check out local state forests and campgrounds for cabins and camping availability.

I’ve been itching for a road trip – it can get so hard to make the time for a quick getaway – but I love all of your suggestion, especially the farm one – although that can be done well in the fall on a apple farm!

Warm Regards,

I feel like I need to have a picnic before summer ends! Or to grill something over a campfire! I don’t know, I just can’t bear to part with it already </3

I live by the shore, so the best time to go is in September when all the tourists have left & the roads aren’t bumper locked.

This is also a great time to enjoy (and or stock) all that summer produce that is ripening up and ready for fall!

Almost time to clean up and pack away your summer clothes, and bring out your fall sweaters!

Wonderful time to open windows and sleep in that cool air (in lieu of sleeping under the stars)…hey, there’s still bugs out there :-)

I have tried all these ideas at the end of last few summers, now I am wondering to stay at home and enjoy the bouncing on our personal trampoline. Because we renovate our house this year and don’t have that much budget to go outside the country for destination holiday. So the best thing which I am gonna do this holiday is bouncing… lol :-). My kids also love to bounce on it. It is also our fitness equipment.
