Can you remember a time before Instagram? It’s crazy how social media channels can take off and become part of our everyday life seemingly overnight. They change the way we interact and the way we capture the world around us. I’ve always been one to shy away from social media, so it took me a little while to warm up to Instagram. But now, I love it. I love that it is purely visual, and it’s a fun way to see the world through other people’s eyes. Not to mention, it has become quite a powerful platform for photography – I have discovered some amazing talent through this app. Our September catalog, which we’re calling #fpselfieedition, pays homage to this powerful social media tool by featuring a large variety of models, bloggers, musicians, and artists, and their social media accounts. Each image plays on the idea of the selfie, and mimicks the format of Instagram with the location of the photo and clever captions. It’s so much fun to look through – stay tuned to shop the full catalog next week and for an announcement on Monday about a fun sweepstakes to go along with it! Adore that concept – I love the way social media allows for everyone to be a journalist of sorts. It’s a great resource to get inspired by people we admire, and a sacred place to document our lives. Sometimes I think about the future of my social media accounts (will my kids inherit them, will my great-grandkids be interested in them?) I think they’ll make for such treasures someday – if only my grandmother had an instagram account when she was 22!

I tried to stay away from social media during my first year of college, because of distractions. Today, a year after graduation I’m working on my own projects and social media can help a lot to promote businesses, and put the products out there.
I absolutely adore Instagram!!!! It was love at first sight for me!!!The filters are to die for, I use them all the time! I take most of my iphone photos using the “square” setting so that the automatically format to the Instagram size. I also really love Instagram’s Weekend Hash Tag project – a topic is thrown out and you have the weekend to shoot pictures that fit the bill… It so very much fun! I’m on Instagram as TheWeaverOfWords
