Weekend Do: Rest and Reset

My mind has been going. It’s running at a pace that’s fast and focused, but also one that’s hard to slow down.

Maybe it’s the time of year, or transitions happening at home and at work. There seems to be this never ending list that just keeps growing, and as I check one thing off, another is added to the queue. Being busy is good, it’s taught me how to prioritize and use time efficiently, but as things pile up and I’m left to organize the fray, there’s a part of me that gets lost. I zero in on the task at hand, and if it doesn’t get done, I’m afraid of the potential consequence. Is the world going to end?

Absolutely not.

Life is like a rolling set of waves, and while some are strong and fast, others are more gentle. You might not expect the force of the fast paced tide, but we learn to tread and keep afloat. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle, especially around the holidays, we have to remember that it’s okay to check out from all the chaos, and to push the to-do list aside. Our bodies and minds need to rest in order to perform at their full potential, so do them a favor and take the time for yourself to just completely relax.

To start, I’ve actually stopped. I’ve stopped worrying. Keeping a head space that’s tuned in to the present moment rather than fretting about what’s to come is the fastest way to a reset. The weekends are the best time for me to do this. I have two days, two whole days, do to whatever I please. Sometimes it feels like those days come and go in the blink of an eye, but it is possible to slow them down. If we slow down, everything else will follow.

It’s as simple as ignoring all notifications on your phone. Go ahead and even turn off the vibrate function. Or maybe it’s listening to those songs that bring along feel-good vibes. When I start to get overwhelmed with thoughts of work, I put on one of my favorite songs, and I switch my focus to the lyrics and the beat, allowing it to take my mind elsewhere.

Go on an adventure… sleep away the day… lay in the grass and watch the clouds pass over. Whatever it may be, do something to rest and reset this weekend. Make the time to treat yourself, because you deserve it.

I was feeling so restless a few weeks ago, but now that the season and cold have settled in I’m feeling so much more relaxed and at ease. Beautiful read!

Warm Regards,

I miss Australia so so much, especially Byron. Having Free People set up shop over there is beyond magic. If dreams come true, Free People will ship me back over there to represent, open a store, literally anything. I’ve deemed it my second home now, there’s no place quite like Oz xxx

I love this message. With school, work, an internship, and my blog things can get pretty chaotic in my mind REAL QUICK. Your words are a great reminder of the benefit of letting go of all the worry and simply living in the moment.

Perfectly said. We must allow ourselves the time to stop, rest and reset to ensure that when we are out in our busy lives we are able to be the best version of ourselves that we can be.

I did just this yesterday! I have family that owns a pecan farm and they had a pecan festival yesterday. So my family and I packed up and drove 4 hrs to Virginia, MO. I haven’t been there in about 10 years, so it was quite a treat. I also haven’t left my home town since April, so it was nice to get outta Kansas for a while. Byrds Pecans is the name of the farm, which I think is the cutest (my mom’s maiden name is Byrd) It’s just so perfect lol! Even though there was tons of people there that I didn’t know and it was only about 47 degrees out, the sun was shining and it was so relaxing just being outside surround by all the trees all day long!
