What I’m Packing For Puerto Rico

In two days, I’ll be headed for the sun, the sand and the sea, and I couldn’t be more excited.

It’s been some time now since the last vacation I went on. Having the opportunity to pack up and jet off somewhere to completely relax and enjoy myself doesn’t come around that often, so I’ve been anxiously counting down the days. I’ll  be leaving the cold in Philly for a warm place that I’ve yet to visit, but have heard so many wonderful things about: Puerto Rico!

Growing up, my family and I would always set aside two weeks out of each year to head to a place where surfing was the main attraction. I can remember packing up our car and watching my dad strap down our surfboards to the roof rack; we’d drive from Florida, up the east coast, to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. As my brother and I got older, we began to venture outside of the States to Nicaragua and El Salvador. Surfing has always been something that brings my family together, but it’s probably been about four years since the last big trip we all took together. This time that I’ll get to spend with them over the holiday in the surf and on the beach takes me back to my roots, and I couldn’t be more thankful.

Check out what I’m bringing along with me below, and for anyone who has ever been to Puerto Rico, I would love to hear your recommendations! We’ll be around Aguadilla and the surrounding areas, so be sure to let me in on your secrets!

clothes

Gathered Bralette, Marled Canvas Panama Hat, Astella Shoulder Bag, Mare Slip On Clog, Rounders Sunglass

Packing light is something I’ve yet to master, but a beach vacation is a good time to practice. The essentials –bathing suits, light cover-ups, sandals, sunnies — are all I’ll really need. I love the versatility of the Gathered Bralette. I can wear it on the beach or incorporate into other outfits that I’ll hit the town in.

outfit

Gathered Bralette, Double Cloth Boyfriend Tunic, Sahara Coin Choker

wall hang

Custom Painted Surfboard, Sundial Backpack, Long Sleeve One Piece, River Runs Through It Huarache, Bandit Denim Cutoffs

A good sized backpack is also ideal. Wherever we choose to explore, I’ll need something to keep my camera and lenses in. I love the colorful print and soft fabric of the Sundial Backpack!

I am Puerto Rican and proud! I have visited Puerto Rico many times and you are going to a wonderful area. Be sure to stop and visit Rincon its known to be one of the best surfing spots in the world and for sure the best on the island. There is an awesome restraunt called Casa Verde and and bar named Tamboo. Surfers, laid back people, island vibes and everything carribean and amazing surround these areas. Have a blast it will be amazing. XO

Puerto Rico is such a special place in my heart. My boyfriend and I have been going every year for New Years the past 3 years and we normally stay about 3 weeks. We stay in Rincon which is about 20 minutes from aguadilla (where we fly in). There a a ton of really good local places to eat I would say you MUST go to the restaurant called Ode to the Elephants they have amazing Thai food and specialty martinis every night. Also some local bars are casa verde, Tamboo, and villa cofresi has the best coco frios and the absolute best location to watch the sunset! It’s a beautiful place enjoy it!!!

I stayed in Aguadilla with my husband and daughter last March and LOVED it! Our fav spot was the Ruins right before Wilderness, but we also loved Middles which had some of the best shells and swell, and had a blast Crashboat if your not planning to surf. So many great spots in one area, and the empanadas are amazing! Enjoy:)

Lucky Girl! I was born in PR…Aguadilla is my favorite part of the Island. One of my favorite to do things is to eat at the airport the minute we land. My husband & I make it a point to stop there for our first meal…a cuban sandwich it is to die for!!! There is also a little bar/restaurant right on the beach. The waves are great for surfing. Hobo beach is pretty cool too. Be sure to explore the island there is so much hidden beauty! Have a great time.

Hey Jana! Excited to see your photo diary from the trip! I used to live there (in Rincon) feel free to shoot me an email with any more questions ;-)

Sunset-calypso, tamboo, villa cofresi for a PIRATA
Restaurants- ode to the elephant for great thai and martinis (the wine cellar downstairs is also good if its still there!), make sure to get a pincho at the marina, pool bar for amazing sushi, also don’t miss the english rose for their amazing breakfast and incredible view, lucky 13 for good bbq, casa verde if you want a party
Beaches-jobos and all the surrounding beaches in Isabela are beautiful, in rincon-pools is more secluded, sandy beach is right in front of tamboo and probably the busiest, playa sucia at cabo rojo is beautiful (don’t mind the name) and very scenic, marias for epic sunsets (calypso bar and bohio are right there to grab a rum punch or medalla ;)
Waterfalls-san sebastian is really close to aguadilla and the waterfall in Maricao is beautiful but a long drive and hike
seaglass-if you like to collect seaglass make sure to go walk down by the river mouth in rincon!

have a great time!

There’s a small island called culebra that is fantastic. Down to earth hippie vibe mixed with locals. Rent a golf cart or bikes to get around! You can take a ferry there for $2.50! Amazing place. Also the bigger island near it called vieques where you can see glowing plankton at night.

Hey, that’s cool! I live in Puerto Rico! I’m from the San Juan area, but still, you should really check out Old San Juan, it’s really quite impressive and beautiful. There’s also some graffiti in Santurce part of this cool street art movement called “Santurce is Ley” which if you have time to drive by and check out, it’s super cool.

You have the clothing vibe down, though, I think. Especially in the old San Juan and beach areas the whole beach babe boho is pretty big. Not so much in the more touristy areas (Condado). Fashion is strange.

Have fun!

Ciao FP Jana, wish you well on your trip to a great island of fun, excitement, and adventure! You should totally travel with a solid perfume, especially one that you will benefit from, such as a aromatherapeutic scent including Lavender, bergamot, jasmine, or gardenia. Its good to travel with these because you’ll feel more refreshed and relaxed when out and about on the island. Maybe I can send you a sample of my company’s basic solid perfume if you’d like! Thank you and be safe!!!
