Austin Must-See: The Blanton Museum of Art

Ever since I was little I’ve loved museums.  I think it has something to do with growing up within walking distance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. They’re such quiet, reflective places… perfect to lose yourself for hours, especially on a rainy day. I love that art can be interpreted in so many different ways, depending on the eyes that are viewing it. What captivates one person may not mean much to the next. It’s ambiguous, and personal. Ever since moving to Austin I’ve been hearing great things about the Blanton Museum of Art, located on the University of Texas campus.  The museum holds a mix of contemporary, American, and European art, and the second I walked through its doors I fell in love. Upon entering the museum, you step into a vast atrium that is home to a large staircase and art installation by Teresita Fernandez, called Stacked Waters. An ombre sea of blue tiles gives the illusion of water, and it’s absolutely breathtaking. Once you actually make it past the staircase, the second level of the museum hosts some impressive special exhibits and works that will stop you dead in your tracks. Next time you’re in Austin, be sure to stop by – and visit the website for more information on current and upcoming exhibits!

Each and every time I see a post on here about Austin, I want to visit more and more! The Blanton Museum of Art looks like a great place to spend an afternoon. I love going to modern art museums, but just as equally, I always love the modern architecture and interior of modern museums.
