FP Me Stylist Of The Week: Ambermoore

Kansas City is a place that I’ve yet to travel to, but one I hear SO much about.

Maybe that’s because my roommate is from there, and she holds anything “Kansas” on a very high pedestal. This week’s stylist also has me daydreaming of the Midwest. Amber is a Kansas City native herself, and has situated her simple, yet stylish life in middle America. She recently made the move to Springfield, and most of her time is spent exploring her town (she may just be a pro-thrifter!), and hanging out with her friends and family. There’s something about her photos that evoke a specific mood. Maybe it’s her windblown hair and easygoing vibe that reminds me of a ’70s rock goddess. Whatever it is, it’s working for her. Get a peek into Amber’s world below!

Where are you from? How has this shaped the person that you are today?

I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, but have been living in Springfield, Missouri for a few years now. Kansas City is full of such friendly and welcoming people, and I think growing up in a place where complete strangers are so kind towards one another has really impacted how I strive to interact with others.

Are there any hidden gems where you currently live that you can share with us?

There is a cozy little cafe nestled away in my neighborhood that is walking distance from my house. I love to have breakfast there with friends, or even just pass the time alone reading while sipping tea. There is also a local greenhouse that I frequent. You walk in and you’re surrounded by plants — orchids all in a row on one side, ferns and houseplants on the other. Entire rooms dedicated to geraniums, rows and rows of succulents. Sometimes in the summer there are kittens scurrying around playing in between the isles. It’s heaven.

What does a typical day in the life of Amber look like?

A typical day in the life of Amber is nothing special. I usually stay in bed too long cuddling my sweetie, jump up at the last minute and rush to work. I am a social service worker at a nursing home, so most of my day is spent there. After work I usually spend the evening around the house with my husband and two cats, playing games, reading, watching movies. It’s a simple life, but a wonderful one :)

When not working, how do you like to spend your time?

My most favorite thing in the whole wide world is spending quality time with my friends and my husband. When I’m not with the ones I love, I like cuddling up with my kitties and reading a book, maybe have a record on in the background. Thrifting is also at the top of my list.

If your style was directly related to a character in a movie, who would it be?

Oh I don’t know! I’ve had a couple people tell me my style reminds them of Penny Lane from Almost Famous. Let’s go with her :)

What’s one thing you can tell us that a stranger walking down the street wouldn’t be able to recognize at first glance?

I am a total homebody. My husband also wanted me to say that I’m “deceivingly strong.”

What’s the most magical place you’ve ever traveled to?

Sanibel. Maybe it was so magical because we went there for our honeymoon, but it was a dream. It was rainy so not too many people were there. We would explore the beautiful beaches in the rain and stay up late sitting on the dock outside our hotel room listening to the quiet ocean. Manatees would greet us at the water’s edge, just inches from where we were.

Tell us about one of the most valuable experiences thus far in your life?

I think moving to Springfield was definitely a valuable experience for me. I moved here knowing almost no one and was living on my own for the first time. I really learned a lot about myself, and really came to understand how important it is to enjoy solitude.

You have a beautiful Instagram feed! What aspects of your life do you like to share most on this platform?

Aw thank you! I enjoy sharing style and fashion photos, because I see fashion as a way to express myself. I also enjoy sharing snippets of my home, because I think home decor is also a way of self-expression.

If you could trade places with anyone in the world for a day, who would it be, and why?

You know, I don’t know if I could name a specific person, but anyone who leads a life different from mine. Maybe someone in another country, or someone much older than me. I think it would give me a deeper appreciation and understanding of humanity.

What does being “free” mean to you?

Oh so many things! Being free is late night drives with the windows down and the music loud. Being free is standing in a huge sunflower field, basking in creation. It’s spending all day in a coffee shop reading. It’s dancing around your house listening to Michael Jackson on repeat. I think being free is living your life just the way you want, unencumbered by others’ judgement.

She seems very chill and laid back. I’m a homebody too, and often wonder if anyone else around my age stays in their home as much as I do lol. I’m also from Kansas, in a small town called Winfield. Really wish Free People would open up shop in Wichita, KS. :) until then, I will shop on the website..

Love her style. So effortless and natural. Reminds me of Stevie Nicks. I can so hear ‘Gypsy’ by FleetwoodMac playing through this Photoshoot. A great line in the song, ‘..Back to the Velvet Underground of Lace and Paper flowers..’ Definitely this photo in a song. Great shots. Looking forward to more of these posts.

I’m from and live in Springfield, also. I recognize Wickman’s in the photo…one of my favorite places! Welcome to Springfield, Amber. :-)
