A City In Film

This post comes from our engagement intern, Katerina

A very wise person once said that a photograph is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. I look at life as a series of experiences, enormous collections of snapshots we file away in our brains. A photograph can take the most beautiful ones and turn them into something tangible, something you can hold in your hand. When you look back to a precise moment in time, a photo can keep a fading memory crystal clear.

A few weeks back, I had the opportunity to visit what I now consider to be one of the most beautiful and unique cities in existence. Perched on the coast of California, San Francisco is filled to the brim with so much incredible architecture and culture. My boyfriend Jake and I were fortunate enough to have been given five days to explore the city and its landscape; the steep hills, the beauty of the bay and the richness of the forests right outside the city were the biggest draws for us.

Jake has recently made me a firm believer in the importance of capturing moments with film. I’ve learned to love its rawness and organic nature, never knowing what you’ve actually captured until the film has been developed.

The images give off a vibe of endless time, and a complete recollection of what we did during our travels. From sightseeing, hiking through Muir Woods, visiting museums, and so much more, it really felt as if we explored the entire city. Being in a place that had so much to offer, we couldn’t stop snapping photos.

So here’s my challenge to you: pick up a film camera and start capturing those memories in their rawest form. No one can guarantee the results, but I can guarantee you’ll be surprised with what you end up with.

Simply beautiful – even in grayscale. I love the portrait of that pup. Excellent job! I think you captured the hills perfectly – reminded me of The Princess Diaries :)

I was just in San Francisco last weekend and actually did a mini photo shoot at Fort Mason. It’s such a beautiful location – the city as a whole is just awesome. Like a west coast New York but with more natural beauty :)
