About A Girl: Meet Lucy Of Lucy & La Mer!

Lucy LaForge, lead singer of American Folk-Pop band Lucy & La Mer, is music come to life.

Upon meeting her at Echo Park Lake in Los Angeles, I first noticed her cool and quirky style, not to mention her gorgeous locks that were pinned back perfectly by her infamous bow. We met at the neighborhood lake, only steps away from her home. Lucy had just recently returned from Austin, where she played a number of showcases at SXSW. She is soft spoken and kind, with a personality as carefree as a feather in the wind. Much like her music, she is bright, darling, and smart. Lucy LaForge is a warm summer breeze.

Lucy & La Mer is Lucy’s musical project; their five song debut EP Little Spoon, written by Lucy, is set to be released on April 6, 2015. You can see Lucy perform at our second FP Loves Music event at Free People Studio City on Thursday, April 6 at 6pm. Read on to learn more about this sunny soul:

Where are you from originally?

Temecula, CA

What is your favorite thing to do in LA?

I love going on picnics, everywhere and anywhere in the city.

When did you know you wanted to be a musician?

The first time I sat down to a piano and felt the instant gratification of banging on the keys.

What kind of music did you listen to growing up?

My folks had an awesome vinyl collection, so I grew up with The Beach Boys, The Eagles, George Harrison, Lesley Gore, and Bob Dylan. But also, N’sync. Lots of N’sync!

What do you love most about being a musician?

I love to travel, so touring new places and meeting new people is my favorite part. I’d love to just buy an RV and tour the country for a couple years.

Your favorite place to chill out is…

Echo Park Lake.

What is the greatest piece of advice you’ve ever received and from whom did you receive it?

“If it doesn’t make you happy, don’t do it.” -Mom

I sailed around the globe when I was twenty-one!

Do you have a morning routine?

Coffee, coffee, music, coffee.

What does an ideal evening look like?

Dancing all night, then getting the first batch of donuts from the corner shop before falling asleep.

If you could swap wardrobes with anyone, who would it be?

Ariel, aka The Little Mermaid.

I know you were just at SXSW but are you planning on going to any other music festivals this year?

Coachella, Kerrville Folk Fest, EDC, and Echo Park Rising.

What is your go-to outfit?

Vintage Skirt, band t-shirt & a big bow.

What advice would you give aspiring musicians?

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Just keep making the music that makes you happiest and the rest will come.
