UK to FL: Escaping London for Some Winter Sun

For me, there’s nothing better than some winter sun. Living in London, as great a city as it is, the drizzly grey skies can start to get a bit gloomy. I love the novelty that autumn brings when summer ends… swapping BBQs for cozy Sunday roasts, toasty fires in a local pub, the colorful leaves on the ground, the list could go on… but then winter comes… You forget what it feels like to have the warmth of the sun on your skin and the months to spring seem so far away. It’s during this time that I have to escape, to break up the cold and relax by the sea. Luckily, my fiancé is as much of a sunseeker as me, so I always have a willing travel partner in crime!

This year we decided to explore Miami and Key West, where the weather is perfect, hot sun and blue skies. After spending the past few months cooped up indoors, being able to sit outside and eat was a joy. It’s always fun to explore a new place together, as its makes the trip more of an adventure. We stayed a few blocks away from the beach in the Art Deco area, where all the buildings are fun, vibrant and have such interesting features and details. The beach was just as gorgeous as I’d hoped, with white sand that goes on forever and the brightest blue sea I’ve ever seen. We were in Miami for four nights before we headed down to explore the tropical islands of the Florida Keys. Obviously, being Brits, we had to go for the convertible, not wanting to miss a minute of the sun! When we were in Miami we walked for miles, so when we got to Key West we just laid on the beach and enjoyed our last few days of relaxation before heading back to the hustle and bustle of London.

I think it’s so important to take time out of our normal habitat and routine, especially when living in a big city. Not to escape life, but so life does not escape us!

I want to go to Miami soo badly! The blue water alone is enough to get me there, but then add some 1920s flare and I am sold!

How beautiful! Today where I am the temperatures are above freezing for the first time all year so these pictures have me so looking forward to summer in a few months – I can’t wait :)

Wow, love this dreamy vintage beach escape. I can agree with you, I live in SF and I know that at times, the fog can get me down a little bit!

Key West is hand down one of my favorite places to visit — the beaches, palm trees, Key Lime pie, it’s awesome! Hoping to go back one day soon. <3

I love escaping during the cold winter months to some oasis bathed in warmth. Now that I’ve moved to Manila, I’m always bathed in warmth so the occasional trip back home to the States during winter is a nice change too :)

A sky that gently dips into the sea’s warm embrace – soft sand that squishes between your toes – what’s not to love? Just beautiful xx
