California artist, Brenna Deer, is as cool as they come.
When I first pulled up to her La Jolla beach pad, she met me outside; her tousled blonde beach hair whipping around in the ocean wind. She waved and welcomed me with one of the warmest smiles I’ve ever encountered. I can tell already that she is a tender soul – one of those people that just naturally radiates light. Barefoot, she leads me beyond the ten-feet tall fuchsia flowers growing up the alley wall and back to her beach bungalow. She has music playing outside on her porch and a few friends are hanging out, enjoying the Saturday sun.
Brenna was born an artist… born to create and tell stories through images. Pastels and paints are her poison of choice; bright colors saturate her canvases. The faces she paints are as beautiful as the muses she models them after. Her art is beautifully deconstructed then put together so meticulously that you can’t help but try to figure it out. It quickly becomes a stare of attraction. Brenna finds inspiration in everything for her art, but recently has been inspired by old portraits that she picks up at thrift stores. She draws sketches onto them to add her own story to their history – a true play on time and space.
Brenna leads me through her home and I notice her own art is everywhere, coupled with fresh and vibrant flowers. To be surrounded by one’s own art seems like a dream – each piece deeply rooted with its own history. She’s only lived here a small while but her home feels already beyond comfortable and well lived in. It’s a home of a passionate and open-minded creator. Scroll on to get a glimpse of Brenna’s artistic and poetically easy-going world.

You should feature Amanda Sage! She’s an artist based in LA, that I think fits the FP mold. :)
