FP Me Stylist Of The Week: Alextrasi

Alex is an artist, style influencer, and all around creative gal.

I first saw her face pop up in some of Melodi’s FP Me photos. The two make quite a striking pair. I’m so glad I discovered her profile because her pics are breathtaking. Especially the ones below that I’ve included in this post. Turns out this Texas local just took a little trip out to LA and met up with Melodi and Asher in a field colored in yellow blooms. She made for the perfect subject.

It’s always amazing what a team of creative people can accomplish, and it sounds like Alex makes a point to stay surrounded by these types. There’s nothing more inspiring than having your life fueled by art and creativity. It sure seems like she’s livin’ life right. Where are you from? How has this shaped the person that you are today?

I was born in Canada and moved to Dallas, Texas at the age of 7! While being raised in a number of different cultures, I was ingrained with open-mindedness and was introduced to different experiences at an early age. A lot of my artwork breaches the subject of people caught in a candid moment. I feel having an enriching and eventful childhood encouraged me to think creatively and laid the path for how my mind works today.

Where do you currently live? Any secret gems in your neighborhood that you’re willing to share with us?

I currently live in Dallas, Texas. I have a studio space at the historic Moon Mansion, which is an artist collective that was established in 1906 in downtown Dallas. The Mansion is an inspiring place that is filled with some of Dallas’ most respected artists – everyone possesses a unique skill.  I’m lucky to be a part of it and be surrounded by an assortment of amazingly creative people daily.

How do you typically spend your days?

On my days off, I take full advantage of my time to draw, pain, read, or explore the trails of White Rock Lake. If I have some extra change in my pocket I’ll walk a couple blocks down to one of my favorite vintage spots, Dolly Python or Lula B’s. It’s almost impossible to walk out of either of those shops empty handed.

How would you describe the people and style in Texas? Every time I visit I get such good vibes. I’d love to hear a local’s opinion!

We are very influenced by Southwestern traditions and by those who have been here before us. Texas has a very rich history, and throughout time we have been influenced by our surrounding cultures. I pull a lot of my fashion inspiration from musical icons – think if Patsy Cline had a baby with Joan Jett. Country meets rock and roll.

Your pictures capture my attention time and time again. Is photography something you’ve always been drawn to?

Yes – Photography is a LOT like painting and drawing. It’s an art form in itself. I can get instant gratification from taking a solid photograph. There are a lot of aspects to consider, such as lighting, color theory, and composition. When a photo turns out the way I envision it, it’s pure creative bliss!

I hear you just took a trip out to LA. Any highlights from the adventure?

I was able to spend some quality time with my best friend, that was easily the highlight of my trip. Our heads are filled with creative energy and to be around someone like that just adds fuel to the fire. We were able to go to a Current Affairs pop-up vintage market and that felt like being a kid in a candy store – I was able to find so many beautiful, timeless pieces to mix into my Free People collection!

What’s one thing you are willing to share with us that a stranger walking down the street wouldn’t be able to tell from first glance?

I’m an only child! I am very close with my family and friends because of that. My parents mean the world to me and have been so supportive of everything I do since day one. Ever since I was little, my close friends have been like my siblings, so nurturing those relationships has always been a big priority to me. 

If you had to move to another state or country besides the one you live in now, where would it be and why?

I’d like to experience as many places as possible during my lifetime, so you could pretty much move me anywhere and I’d be open to it.  If I could have a choice, it might be somewhere in Italy or France because I’d like to learn more about the artwork and the culture.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

To always consider the bigger picture! No matter what is happening in the moment, if it feels awful or totally amazing, everything happens for a reason and a greater cause.

What leaves you feeling the most inspired?

A good cup of coffee, being surrounded by natural beauty, and traveling – realizing that we are part of a bigger system and that everything we do is purposeful.

What does being ‘free’ mean to you?

Being free means letting go of all inner inhibitions and being true to yourself. When you are confident in your heart and mind you are the true free spirit.
