FP Me Stylist of the Week: Tezzamb

I’m pretty excited to introduce you all to Tessa Barton, aka Tezzamb, this week on the blog. Her photographs have been captivating us here at FP for quite some time, so to dig a little deeper and get the story on where this beauty comes from, we went straight to the source.

Blogger, photographermusician — I’d call her a creative hat trick if you ask me. Tessa has found her passions in life, and she’s been sharing them with the world in any way that she can. Born and raised in Utah, this gal is no stranger to adventure. Growing up in such a magical place has widely influenced her and her creative vision, and the below pictures can attest to that. Read on to be inspired by our FP Me stylist of the week!

Where are you from? How has this shaped the person that you are today?

I am from the ever so beautiful Salt Lake City, Utah. Let me tell you, if you have never been here, you are missing out. I grew up roaming mountains, diving into lakes, skiing the freshest snow, and road tripping every other weekend. To call this place magical would be an understatement. It’s a vessel for adventure. I think it’s what made me get into photography, I couldn’t turn a corner without feeling inspired. It’s full of musicians and artists, offering a life where the possibilities are endless. Around one corner is a city full of good eats and pop-up shops, while up another is the latest and greatest at the Sundance Film festival. Growing up here allowed me to create a palette unique to me, pulling from all of my favorite lifestyles and putting it into one.

Where do you currently live? Any secret gems in your neighborhood that you’re willing to share with us?

I reside in a cute little urban area called Sugar House, Utah. Honestly I don’t like to label where I live, I consider myself more of a wanderer. I love traveling and manage to find a home (and feel at home) everywhere I go. But let me tell you about a few of the gold mines I have discovered in the heart of Utah: My absolute favorite place for thrifting is a place called Decades, you can find glamorous sequins to the best cowboy boots, fringe on fringe to bomber jackets, if you can dream it, they have it.  As far as good eats, let me tell you about my number one go-to brunch, dinner, late night snack spot, Eva. Eva is a quaint and flavorful little spot on main street that has an eclectic menu ranging from small plates to not-so-small plates, to local goods and mouth-watering french deserts.

What inspired you to start your blog?

I started a blog because I began taking images, writing music, and making my own clothing and realized I wanted a home for all of it. I love to view things as a collection, I think often that is how things are meant to be seen. I wanted a place, really, for me to create and to live and to document. I didn’t really know what I was going to blog about when I first began, in fact I think it is still an evolution, but that is what is amazing, you get to watch yourself grow and change. I think there are so many interesting people in the world and how cool that you can find a blog and get to know a piece of someone’s life and share a moment with them when they live thousands of miles away. That is truly incredible and inspiring to me.

For any new readers, what are they in store for?

I would say you are in store for an organized mess of adventure. I blog about everything from my music and band, to my latest fashion obsessions to my favorite clients and their love lives, to my travel infatuated life! Honestly it’s my journal, no rhyme or reason, just a little window into the way I see it.

What have you learned anything about yourself since starting a blog?

I have learned that it is always easier to not worry about what you think people want, and to just do what you want. It’s easier to write in your own voice, to be you and to share how you see it. Being authentic is the only thing that will ever last. I also learned fast that if I want to be heard, I better make some noise!

What do you think is essential for any aspiring blogger to keep in mind? Any advice?

This is a great question, I think the best advice I could ever give would be to remember that you are unique and that if you love what you are doing that is all that matters. There are harsh people out there that will try and pull you down and poison the beauty you are creating. Don’t over think it, do you. Be passionate and curious, try things and mess up! Failure is necessary, don’t waist time trying to be someone else, just be YOU. Oh… and HAVE FUN!

Can you give us a little glimpse into what a day in the life of Tessa looks like?

I would say no day in my life is the same. I am not a planner, more of a doer. I wake up and get moving, run, hike, bike, yoga, whatever it may be. I am a night owl and an early bird. I don’t love sleep nearly as much as I love filling every hour of my day. I have millions of emails always, I usually have a photoshoot somewhere in there mixed with lots of editing. I find a way to either paint or work on some songwriting. My nights are filled with playing gigs downtown with my band or playing a little in-house rock and roll with my boyfriend. Our absolute favorite is a late night desert at Eva with a brainstorming session on some of our new ideas. I have a little book I fill with “an idea a day”. It ranges from the impossible, crazy creative, to simple goals, (highly recommend this). I don’t know the last time I was bored ha, I just love life too much!

If your best friend were doing an impersonation of you, how would they quote you?

Hmmm…. They would probably just start singing a random song in the middle of nowhere. Apparently I sing everywhere, from the grocery store to the middle of a restaurant without even realizing I am doing it! Oops!

How do you think your personality is reflected in your personal style?

I am bold with opinions, I am chaotic and relaxed. My style ranges from layering and loud colors to monochromatic soft blends. I don’t ever feel like I am dressing up, more just getting dressed. I let my clothes speak to me, always put on way too much jewelry and go with the flow, it’s definitely an organized mess. I like clothes that come alive, have a story to tell, a personality. Clothing speaks just as much as your voice, and I like to be heard.

What are three things you absolutely can’t live without?

A guitar – who can live without music? I love writing music, singing, listening, all of it.

My camera – photography is my adventure, imagination, expression. My way of revealing the world the way I see it.

Friends and Family- I absolutely love humans, all of them. The mind is the most fascinating thing. I love good conversations, memories, and the dynamic of the thrill of meeting new people and seeing how they live life, what a curious thing!

In terms of beauty, do you have certain routine you stick to everyday?

My motto is if it’s not broken don’t fix it! Your skin will tell you what it needs. My number one thing is moisturizing, keeping the skin soft and clean to prevent wrinkles and peeling is my necessity. Other than that I drink about a gallon of water a day, I sincerely think this cures all things, hydration, skin, metabolism, and energy! Make it easy for yourself and always have a gallon of water on hand, you will take way too many bathroom breaks, but trust me, it’s worth it!

Any exciting travel plans for the summer?

Actually yes and very soon, I am headed to Santorini, Greece, and lets be honest who hasn’t wanted to go there since they watched “The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants”? Silly yes I know, but I couldn’t be more excited. I  also have countless road trips planned from California to The Grand Canyon so if anyone wants to join, the more the merrier!

What does being “Free” mean to you?

“Being Free,” how good does that just feel to say? I have always been consumed by the thought that there is that positive energy, that careless thinking, that easy decision that finds its way into my life. Everything falls into place as it should if I let myself trust it. Follow the flow and life will carry you on your journey. Let yourself feel the bumps, accept the good and the bad and don’t waist time worrying.  My sister used to always say to me, “ Feel the fear and do it anyway.” Set yourself free from any limits, that is being free.
