Blogger Diary: Monica’s Big Adventure

Our new blog intern shares with us her big adventure from Utah to Philadelphia!

A few months ago, I had the opportunity to travel to what seemed to me to be a different world: Nicaragua. I, along with a dozen other ladies, won a styling contest through FP Me to travel throughout its jungles. My love for FP grew even more on that trip because I had the opportunity to live out the magical beauty that each of the amazing individuals at home office had created. It was absolutely inspiring to be by their side for the week and watch how their visions came to life. On our last day, I felt so sad to be leaving all of the lovely people I had met but, little did I know, I’d be seeing some of them in just a few months! While signing up for fall semester classes, something told me I needed to be somewhere else. It was time for a change, even if it was temporary, to get a break from my comfort zone. That somewhere else was Philadelphia, in the company of Free People’s online marketing and blog teams.

Moving from Utah to Pennsylvania was a whirlwind of excitement and anxiousness. With just two weeks to find a place to stay, I searched high and low through what I think was the entire internet – nothing seemed to be working out.  Three days before my start date, I flew two thousand miles across the country, hoping for a miracle. When the plane landed, I received a text from a new friend and FP employee whom I met in Nicaragua. It was the miracle I had been waiting for there were two fellow employees who were renting out their charming Fishtown space. It was exactly what I’d been looking for.

IMG_5981Philadelphia is now my home, and I am absolutely smitten. Each street is unique in its own way, from ivy cascading off of power lines, flickering lights seeping from the windows of the seemingly thousands of Broad Street laundromats, and the old church bell on my block that softly chimes eleven minutes before every hour. It is all so enchantingly different from what I knew.

So here’s to new adventures and taking a leap of faith, to crazy little miracles and chasing your dreams.  Here’s to old friends and new friends who make any adventure better. Here’s to seeking out beauty in the unfamiliar and stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Much love to you. And recently, I just started a new class that turned out to be slightly intimidating. But, I decided to keep going, because I believe it’s going to be quite magical.

Hi there,
Nice article. I’m wondering as I’ve wondered and have asked in the past, and I’ve applied several times….if there are any opportunities at the blog is love to be a part!! I’ve spoken with Chrissy months ago, and I’ve applied online. My love and “live for” free people as a brand and everything everyone FP stands for, it’d b an honor and a personal goal to join such a team!
I look forward to hearing from you,
