Need a weekend adventure? Washington, DC is where it’s at! We’ve got some tips to make it wonderful!

Recently, I made the quick trip from Philadelphia to Washington, DC to visit a dear friend. With just three days to take on the town, we found ourselves gallivanting from Adams Morgan to Capitol Hill to Georgetown, cramming in as much as possible. Luckily, I had my own personal tour guide and she showed me some amazing places! If you ever find yourself in DC, check out these must-see spots:
Food:
Astrodonuts: Astro offers a unique variety of donuts with flavors from seasonal blackberry to PB & J. I’d recommend the crème brulee — AMAZING!
Scoops: A cute little ice cream and creperie shop in Georgetown with the freshest ice cream and the friendliest staff. I recommend the honey lavender cream!
Baked and Wired: All of the DC natives I’ve talked to said this was even better than the very popular Georgetown Cupcakes, and they were absolutely right. Here were the most divine cupcakes I’ve ever tasted anywhere. Baked and Wired offers a myriad of flavors, from the “Chocolate Cupcake of Doom” to “Dirty Chai”. It’s right in Georgetown, near the Potomac River, and the perfect place to watch the sun go down with a cupcake in hand.
Tryst: Tryst is easily one of my new favorite restaurants. I’m itching to get back to DC just to have another “Alisha” sandwich with a side of house-made potato chips and a lavender lemonade. It’s located in the Adams Morgan area, which was filled with old Victorian buildings painted in every color. The perfect spot to walk around on a Saturday afternoon!
Do and See:
Old Stone House Park: While you’re eating your way through Georgetown, take a moment to explore this mini garden which is flourishing with not only flowers, but also loads of history.
Get the look: Move With It Crop, Seamed High Rise Hawk
Eastern Market: Walking through dozens of fruit tents with a fresh-squeezed lemonade in hand made for the perfect Sunday morning activity in DC.
National Mall: You can’t go to DC without hitting the mall — and I don’t mean the shopping mall! As a first-timer to DC, I had to see the monument, memorials and Smithsonian museum.
*Tip: The Smithsonian Museums and the National Zoo offer free daily admission and are open every day of the year except December 25th.
Get the look: Love Me Like What Dress, Pink City Dress
Great Falls and Great Falls Park: Just a 30-minute drive from downtown DC and you’ll run into a breathtaking Virginia national park with views that are unmatched. If you have a few hours to spare, I highly recommend making the short trip from the heart of the city to VA.
Paddleboard on the Potomac: While sitting on the banks of the Potomac, I watched a group of paddleboarders float on by. Although I didn’t get to partake on this trip, it’s on the top of my bucket list for my next rendezvous in DC.
Walk/shop around Georgetown: With cobblestone side streets and charming old buildings, you’ll find yourself in what feels like a storybook. I could easily have spent three days exploring just Georgetown!

Oh, man, this post made me homesick. Every now and then a girl just needs to go back to her tall trees and bustling streets:).
(Also, I am a firm believer in the cupcake recommendations in this post.)
Just a short drive north up to Bethesda, MD and check out one of the best Italian restaurants, Pines of Rome. It certainly doesn’t look good from the outside, but the food is perfecto! Be sure to get the white pizza as an appetizer.
