Austin born and raised? Or did you come by way of another place?

I was born in Newport Beach, California and jumped around a few cities until settling in Austin at the age of 13.  Three years ago, my husband transferred to a school in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and we both sorta fell in love with Fort Worth. It’s where we are now!

So, photography….where did your journey begin, and at what point are you currently?

Photography…it’s been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a child I was obsessed with disposable cameras and took random photos all the time. I would get so excited when my mom would bring home my prints! It was when I was about 12 years old that I really started setting up photo shoots of my little sister and friends, and really never stopped!

From where do you draw inspiration?

Inspiration is everywhere. My family and friends provide an endless source of inspiration – the ladies in my life who possess insane amounts of creativity, and the men who constantly share their musical talents. Besides watching all of these amazing folks, past eras, youth and love influence me a great deal.

What’s a day in the life of Kyndra look like?

Well, the day will normally start a little late because I’m a girl who likes to sleep in! When I do get up, I’ll have some coffee, put on some jams (probably the Stones) and play around with the day’s outfits! My life is almost like one big shoot, albeit random, every single day. I’m lucky that my many amazing friends appreciate this side of me. Exploring and taking photos is pretty much typical for me, and I don’t think that will ever change! At the end of the day, I like grabbing a yummy drink with my best friends while taking in a friend’s band. Or, you may find me at home with my husband and dog, Sailor, cooking a delicious dinner and cuddling up to a movie.

What three things are essential for every photographer to have?

A real love for creating. It’s the love that will keep you going and growing.

Doing it for you, because it makes you happy, really shows.

Every photographer should identify his or her own authentic style. There are so many who inspire me daily – they are the ones who have secured their own look. As soon as you see an image, you know immediately who took it. That is so important!

Favorite lenses/cameras you like to use?

My go-to camera is my Pentax. Film is just… ah, the best. I appreciate having to really focus on capturing each shot instead of just snapping away with my digital. I think film challenges me as a photographer and I love that about it. The anxious feeling of waiting on film to develop is so fun.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Personality begins where comparison ends –Karl Lagerfeld. I feel like we all get caught up in comparing ourselves to others at times and we begin to lose ourselves while doing it. When you stop, you really are you.
