The Exhibit You Need To Visit In DC Right Now

Step into a world of wonder at DC’s Renwick Gallery.

When we dream, we are enveloped in worlds that are a makeup of our subconscious…fantasy lands that only the dreamer can find. I often wake up wondering how the hell my mind could conceive such places. And with me they remain until sleep allows the opportunity to revisit them once more. There’s an exhibit in DC that’s doing a great job at taking these so-called dream worlds and giving them life.

The Renwick Gallery’s new show, Wonder, is making its viewers do just that. Nine artists were each given a room in the newly renovated space, where they used unexpected, everyday materials — index cards, old tires and string, to name a few — to create large-scale installations. As I entered each exhibit, I felt my mind completely letting go of tasking thoughts, making way for bits of wonderment to draw on the canvas which had become my imagination. My favorite room was the one crafted by Gabriel Dawe, which showcased his use of different colors of thread to create a real-life prism. His weavings are often mistaken for fleeting rays of light, and this one in particular has a way of playing tricks on the eye. It’s probably the closest you’ll ever get to meeting a rainbow.

The exhibit is running now until July 10, 2016. I highly recommend making the trip to our nation’s capital to see it for yourself. Below is just a taste of what wonders lurk inside the gallery…

I found this post late last year and dreamed about going to this exhibit (i like in Arkansas). I went with my heart and booked the plane tickets 3 weeks ago and went this last weekend, before part of the exhibit closed. It was so wonderful! Thank you for this post.
