4 Places To Find Holiday Spirit In LA

Last week we brought you five places to find your holiday spirit in NYC. Now it’s LA’s turn.

Someone asked me the other day how I felt about being back in LA compared to New York. Obviously I miss the Big Apple more than anyone can imagine, but LA is home. “Welllll, what about Christmas in LA?” they insisted. “Isn’t it bizarre to be back in California during the holidays, especially when you leave a white Christmas in New York behind?” Oooooof, yep, that one got me. There really is nothing like a New York City holiday…the snow, Rockefeller Center, the hustle, the energy…ahhhh, just to think about it again…

But (wait!) I do love a California Christmas, too! The sidewalks are lined with palm trees instead of snow, and Santa might be wearing a Hawaiian shirt instead of a red suit…but however different, the holiday is still soaked with spirit. With Christmas just eight days away, here are a handful of spots around LA to get (or keep) you in the holiday mood.

LA Live Holiday Ice Rink: Check out the ice rink downtown and be whisked away to an overstimulating LED holiday playground. But hurry, won’t you? The rink is only open until December 31st.

Altadena Christmas Tree Lane: This 0.7 mile strip on Santa Rosa Avenue hosts trees four stories high, decorated in saturated rainbow lights. This year, Christmas Tree Lane celebrated its 95th anniversary!

Tam O’Shanter Restaurant: You MUST visit Tam O’Shanter, an English restaurant and pub in the Atwater Village neighborhood of East LA. It’s cozy, dressed in garland and lights, and even has carolers moving about the restaurant to sing your favorite carols upon your request.

CHILL at Queen Mary: Ice tubing and skating, a giant igloo, and a massive ice sculpture maze over 2 1/2 stories high. CHILL at Queen Mary is winter weather at your service, reaching -9 degrees F. Wear your parkas and gloves, Angelenos! You’ll need it…and maybe ten more layers.

This is my first Christmas in LA, so I had no idea about any of these. Will be going to all of them. Thank you!
