Can someone so transcendent truly leave us? A playlist devoted to David Bowie.
Even the reporter seemed to have a difficult time digesting the news early this morning. His voice unsure, questioning, as he announced “It appears that, according to the artist’s website, David Bowie has passed away at 69.” Even then, the news made official by that most official of news outlets — the BBC — it felt like a joke. A hoax. Could someone so ethereal actually be felled by something so human as death? It seems so, yes, but judging by reactions the world over, David Bowie will live on in all of us. Those he touched with his music, his art, his pure gorgeous fearlessness. Ever evolving, ever transcending. Encouraging the weirdos of the world (author included) with his ‘anthems for the alienated’, as NPR so aptly put it.
So today, in honor of this most influential superhuman, the man who fell to earth, blast the playlist below and give thanks that you got to be alive at the same time as David Bowie.
“The truth is of course is that there is no journey. We are arriving and departing all at the same time.” — David Bowie
