Tappan Collective: the company you need (and want) to know about.
In February, we visited four talented artists — Alice, Cheryl, Lola, and Lani — who opened up their studios and, in doing so, shared themselves, their work and their style. To say that I’m left overwhelmingly inspired by them — with an insatiable taste for art — is an absurd understatement.
They are a part of a larger group called Tappan Collective. And, truth be told, the more I learn about the Los Angeles-based company, the more I fall in love. Tappan Collective is an (aesthetically stunning) online art platform that unites up-and-comers with a world of collectors and buyers. They partner with artists to select and showcase their work and, on the flip side, give buyers all of the information they may need regarding an artist’s body of work. A beautiful idea on both sides of the coin. A win-win, if you will.
Tappan was founded in 2012 by Jordan Klein and Chelsea Neman. In addition to connecting emerging artists and buyers via their online gallery, they also host exhibitions and shows for selected artists from their roster. Currently, through March 19, Tappan is hosting “Spatially Speaking,” a compelling collection of work by Heather Day, Satsuki Shibuya, and our Free People friends Cheryl Humphreys, Lola Rose Thompson and Lani Trock. Adds Tappan in the show’s press release: “exploring the space for conversation created through the presentation and varying media of work, this exhibition will highlight the experiential, mindful, investigative and interpretive qualities of the five artists’ work.” Visit the gallery Monday – Saturday, at 8840 Washington Blvd., Culver City, California.
