Achieving the Perfect Brow With Eyeko

You’re just 5 steps away from a perfect brow…

This post comes to us from our beauty contributor, Allie White.

We may have evolved away from most of the thick body hair that covered our ancestors, but why did the eyebrows stick around? Scientifically, it’s believed that eyebrows help keep moisture out of our eyes by diverting sweat or rain around to the sides of the face. So, they’re there to help us see more clearly.

But what about non-scientifically? That’s where the fun starts. If you’re anything like me, the eyebrows served as the first point of conflict between you and your mother, when you tweezed them in secret, thought you looked amazing, and then saw the look of horror form on mom’s face as she said, “What did you do?!”

Then you probably spent a decent chunk of time ducking your head in public and trying to hide behind oversized sunglasses as you left your standing every-four-weeks eyebrow wax appointment.

And of course, who can forget the multiple times you thought, “I’ll just tweeze one more,” only to pull back from the magnifying mirror to find two significantly different brows staring back at you from the same face.

You’ve put your brows through a lot over the years. Don’t you think it’s time to finally treat them right? To love and embrace ‘em for the powerful, beautiful creatures they are?

Along with all the torture they’ve sustained at the mercy of tweezers, hot wax, long piece of thread and razors, they also do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to your face. They’re one of the most distinctive, expressive features on your visage, with the power to convey an emotion with only the slightest movement. It’s time to let your brows be all they can be.

When it comes to getting “perfect” brows, there’s no one-size-fits-all rule. Whether you’re embracing a natural, full brow, or like to keep things neat and tidy north of your eyelashes, everyone has her own definition of gorgeous eyebrows. Regardless of your preference for shape, weight or color, the one common denominator across all brows is that they should be on point.

Treating your brows right will balance your face, highlight your eyes and ensure that when you look back at pictures of yourself 20 years from now, you won’t cringe and think, “What did I do?!”

Here’s how to make the most of your brows:

Listen to nature

Eyebrows should roughly follow your bone structure. Your arch — where the brow is at its highest point — should fall where your brow bone sticks out the most, which is usually above the pupil of your eye. In terms of length, the inner edge should align with the inner tear duct. If you drew a diagonal line from your outer nose to the outer corner of your eye, that’s where the brow should end.

Less is more

If you must shape, it’s always better to need to go back in to do more than to overdo it. Be conservative and take it slow — one hair at a time. Take frequent breaks to check your brows in the mirror to make sure you’re not overdoing it. Be the tortoise when it comes to brows, not the hare.

Fill in the gaps

Whether you have some sparse patches or want a seriously bold brow, a brow liner can be your best friend. Think of it like lipstick, but for your eyebrows. Brush the hairs up to see where they need to be filled in, and then (gently!) get to coloring. The Eyeko Liquid Brow Liner is a great option here, as its precision brush tip lets you draw on individual “hairs” to subtly build up your brows. Plus, using a liquid instead of a pencil or gel means a more natural-looking brow that won’t awkwardly smudge or run if you happen to get caught in that aforementioned rain eyebrows are supposed to protect against.

DTB (define the brow)

If you’ve taken the time to give your brows some color and oomph, or if you just want to keep the girls natural-but-contained, a brow gel is where it’s at. For effortless definition, natural looking hold and a healthy dose of brow-friendly nutrients, the Eyeko Brow Gel will serve you well. Infused with natural vitamins and minerals, the botanically-enriched gel will keep your brows in place while conditioning and thickening the hair for the healthy, glorious eyebrows of your dreams.

Rock it

If the eyes are the window to the soul, the eyebrows are the gorgeous curtains that frame and enhance those soul windows. Treat them right, and they’ll be with you for a long time…no regrets necessary.

Oh yes, just filling in gaps can already make a huge difference!
