Why You Need: Josh Rosebrook

Hand-crafted in small batches with all-natural, organic, high-quality ingredients…

This post comes from beauty contributor, Allie White.

You’re on vacation. Your luggage came through at the other end of the flight. There was no line for a cab. You were greeted in the lobby with a complimentary glass of whatever you want. You’ve checked into the fancy hotel you’ve been Instagram-stalking for months and they upgraded you. Your room is pretty fantastic: giant fluffy bed to jump on, balcony with an amazing view, soft robe, a million TV channels, a tub big enough to swim laps.

Before you head out to explore the new city you just landed in, you want to wash that icky travel feeling off your bod. So you step into the shower and it feels like you’re standing under a dang waterfall. There’s ample water pressure and your roommate hasn’t stolen all the hot water. Basically, this shower is your new happy place.

Then you realize the hotel-supplied shampoo is…not up to par. It’s s 2-in-1, the color is weird, and the smell isn’t anything you recognize. It’s your only choice, though, so you get to lathering. But your hair doesn’t feel that great anymore, and don’t even get me started on trying to brush it post-shower without conditioner. Styling is a mess, there’s hair everywhere. Your mane has a mind of its own, one eerily similar to that of a preteen: moody and totally unwilling to cooperate.

You spend the rest of your trip hiding under the blankets to spare anyone seeing the sight of your hair. You contemplate shaving it all off. You beg the concierge to send a large hat to your room. Basically, your whole trip is ruined and it’s all thanks to a tiny bottle of crappy shampoo. You’re never traveling again and everything is terrible.

Hyperbolic? Sure. Avoidable? Totally. All it takes a neat little collection of travel-sized hair products that you know and can trust. Products you love and that love your hair right back. Products like those from Josh Rosebrook.

Hand-crafted in small batches with all-natural, organic, high-quality ingredients, Josh Rosebrook’s line of hair care is as effective as it is pure. Just look at the list of ingredients on any of the products: bet you can pronounce every single thing on there (and you’ve probably eaten half of them).

When you think about it, that statement is insane, especially when it comes to shampoo, a product that’s meant to wash your hair. Yes, that’s right: a combination of plants, oils and other stuff you can throw into a smoothie will give you the healthiest hair of your life. Josh Rosebrook, miracle worker.

If you’ve got fairly normal, low-maintenance hair, the Nourish Shampoo + Conditioner are for you. The shampoo features a base of African Black Soap and coconut oil, both of which gently cleanse and purify the hair, follicle and scalp, all without stripping away your natural oils. (You’ll know it’s working by the lack of foaming…trust me.) Then we’ve got a blend of oils: sage, oregano, peppermint, thyme and lavender, all of which are packed with antioxidants and vitamins, and work to stimulate hair growth. And because no one has ever said no to glossy hair, camelina and grape seed oil moisturize and protect your mane so it’s uber-shiny.

Then it’s time to smooth, soften and moisturize with the Conditioner, which features a motley crew of hair-loving characters: meadowfoam (high in fatty acids to add moisture without making hair greasy), burdock, rosemary and horsetail (stimulate follicle cell regeneration), lavender, peppermint, sage, thyme and oregano (all of which contain a phytochemical call Thymol which keeps hair growing strong and thick), and hemp seed oil (detangles like you wouldn’t believe).

For those of us with “combination hair,” there’s the Balance Shampoo + Conditioner. As the name suggests, this duo works to gently cleanse while also balancing oil. The Shampoo’s natural plant oils soften and add shine to hair while urging growth and volume. (This stuff is basically the hair equivalent of a first grade teacher who instills a love of reading, except this time it’s healthy, luscious locks.) And the Conditioner moisturizes without adding oiliness or weighing your hair down, thanks to star ingredients vitamins A, E and B. The shea butter and coconut oil aren’t shabby, either.

Now that your hair is clean and conditioned, it’s time to style. On your imaginary vacation, you’ve got two choices: Josh Rosebrook’s Firm Hold Hairspray or the Styling Cream. If you’re looking for more hold, opt for the Hairspray. It’ll keep your ‘do under control with while still allowing for natural movement, thanks to a combination of yucca root, brown rice extract, corn, and a whole host of shine- and nourishment-enhancing essential oils. Bonus points for not making your hair feel sticky like conventional hold sprays.

Then there’s our lighter-hold friend, the Styling Cream. Whether your hair is short, long, wavy, curly or straight, this cream can do something for you. Packed with active plants and herb extracts, it offers hold, texture and definition, all while being so light you won’t even feel it. The combination of shea butter, aloe vera juice, marula seed oil, jojoba oil, baobab oil, tamanu, calendula, dandelion and ginger work together to simultaneously keep your hair in place and heal it.

And since you’re on vacation, why not treat yourself (and your hair) with the line’s Enrich Mask. Sure, masks are typically thought of as skin tools, but your hair is a living, breathing part of your body, too, so treat it like such. This ultra-hydrating mask is meant to soften and improve damaged hair with a potent combination of fatty acid-packed plant oils like African marula, baobab, hemp, sea buckthorn and apricot kernel. These babies work to restore hair’s natural shine, smoothness and elasticity, and will leave you with hair you can’t help but run your fingers through (like in a terrible shampoo commercial from the early 2000s, but in real life).

Now get out of that hotel room and explore. You’re on vacation!
