3 Things To Do For Yourself Today

A 24- hour time period to dedicate to yourself, and nobody else…

My grandmother used to say that Sundays were simply for resting and rejuvenating, a twenty-four hour time period that you could dedicate to yourself, and nobody else. It’s easy for me to ignore her advice, shake it off and get caught up in life. But recently, I’ve been listening, and quite honestly, much happier because of it.

To break my Sunday cycle, I started off by telling myself this: You are a beautiful, hard-working, selfless being, and you deserve this time. Treat yourself.

So I did. Three things, every Sunday, for myself. I’m sharing them to give y’all some ideas, and hopefully inspire you to take a day off — completely — and cater to your needs.

Tunes. Grab your favorite record(s), and let them spin. Dance, sing, shout and pop. When’s the last time you listened to music without doing ten other things, and just really listened to it? It’s good for the soul.

Scrub. My morning routines during the workweek are quick. But I always feel refreshed and beautiful after a good exfoliating face mask. Put that frizzy hair on top of your head, in the messiest of buns (with your flannel jammies on?!) and slather on some goodness. Last Sunday I tried out this peppermint lavender scrub for the first time and fell in love. Marry me. Let’s stick together. Forever.

Paint. You’re probably not Van Gogh. And that makes it that much better. Just grab some paint, a brush, and even some printer paper. Mix new colors, create different brush strokes, and play, like we used to when we were little kids. You may end up making something cool enough to hang above your toilet, and hey, if you don’t, that’s cool, too!

I chose these 3 things this week because my heart told me I needed them. I needed melodies. A spa day sounded great. I also wanted to create, or get lost in something artistic, without any strings attached.

I’m challenging you to clear your schedule today and do  3 things for yourself. You work your butt off, and deserve some time for yourself. If you try this out, let me know how it went, and if you feel rested and rejuvenated, let’s keep this up.

Years ago our grandparents took Sunday drives. I like to get up early, grab my favorite CD, roll the window down, and drive! I usually find a diner and fill up on pancakes, then with coffee to go, find a dock on the water to sit and watch the water lap. I call this my therapy session.

Make LINOLEUM BLOCK PRINT Christmas cards! They’re easy and a beautiful way to express your blessings..
You’ll need :
*1-4 linoleum tiles
*A carving blade(or 2 or 3 different sized blades)
*And standard printing ink- in as many colors as you wish to use.
*An ink roller.
Carve your pattern or design of your choice out of tile keeping in mind the NEGATIVE will print. In other words, the flat UNcarved side where you will roll your ink ,will print. The part you’ve cut out, will be un- inked. Got it??
When you’re done carving ,roll ink EVENLY across the tile.
Then ,CAREFULLY, flip upside down onto your chosen paper.
Press FIRMLY and EVENLY on your “printing” tile, so as to get the ink onto your “card”.
Carefully, lift tile( u don’t want it to smear your work) this may take some practice!
And, VIOLA!! YOUR FIRST PRINT IS READY.
For the Art School or “old school” artist-
You can layer colors by beginning with your lightest color first, carve out more area, then print a darker color, repeat with more carving and darker colored ink,etc..
I.E.- first pale yellow. Then a med.blue over the pale yellow ( you will have the original p.y.AND a med. Green print, at this point !) Have FUN! EXPERIMENT!!
P.S. You can use different tiles or blocks for each color ,or one and wash ink off in between colors. You can also do intricate carvings and just ONE color of ink. EXPLORE YOUR INNER ARTIST!! Be CREATIVE WITH A CARD YOUR LOVED- ONES WILL CHERISH!!
