You are a beautiful, hard-working, selfless being, and you deserve this time. Treat yourself.
Three things, every Sunday, for myself. I’m sharing them to give y’all some ideas, and hopefully inspire you to take a day off — completely — and cater to your needs. Follow along with this series if you feel like “you” time is missing.
Unplug. Turn off your phone. It’s just one day. Pretty pretty please. I promise that, when the day ends, you will feel lighter and happier for it. I know this because I’m starting to unplug more often. Don’t get me wrong, I’m on my phone way too long to admit. But this is your day. Everything else can wait. The Instagram, the news articles, that snap of your dog riding a sled down the hill. Cut the lifeline off for a bit, and just spend your day in the moment. When I go a day without my phone, my anxiety tends to fade a bit. There’s a little less urgency to return calls, texts and emails. Instead of trying to get that perfect shot of my vegan spicy chai latte, I just ya know, drink it while it’s hot.
Love Yourself. Be exactly who you want to be today, and don’t apologize for it. Be silly or sleepy. Get dressed up, or wear a bare face. Step out into the world feeling confident in the fact that you have an identity that is truly your own. You are one of a kind. Remember that.
Book Worm. So, at this point, you’re unplugged and feeling on top of the world. Take a walk to the public library. You know, the one in town that you never manage to visit. Sign up for a library card. It’s free! It’ll take you two minutes, and open your mind to endless worlds. 10-year-old me used to love sitting in the library, with rows and rows of undiscovered worlds to keep my imagination spinning. Current day me loves it just as much, especially on a Sunday, when I can escape life a bit. Have a little fun, and take advantage of the opportunities around you.
I’m challenging you to clear your schedule today and do 3 things for yourself. You work your butt off, and deserve some me time. If you try this out, let me know how it went, and if you feel rested and rejuvenated, let’s keep this up.
