Stay Fluid — Water Element with Nina Endrst

Cultivate a deeper emotional intelligence through the exploration of our innermost layers…

This post comes to you from yogi Nina Endrst, who will be leading our May ’17 FP Escapes retreat in Palm Springs.

Water energy invites us to release ourselves into what is. With presence and breath we begin to cultivate a deeper emotional intelligence through the exploration of our innermost layers.

In this movement series, I encourage you to breathe into the underlying softness — to flow through each posture freely and without expectations.

Skandasana Flow

Start by standing with your feet parallel, toes pointing forward. On your exhale, bend into the right knee and sit deeply toward your right heel (pause for 2 breath cycles). On your next inhale, encourage your navel toward your spine and lift your pelvic floor as you float through center and exhale to bend into the left knee and sit toward the heel. Repeat 5-10 times, flowing with ease from side to side.

Goddess Squat (free flowing arms)

Begin standing with your feet parallel to one another. On your exhale, turn the toes out slightly and bend deeply into the knees. Try not to sink into your hip joints here. Engage the muscles in your legs and keep your core strong and your spine extended. Inhale to lift the arms and exhale release and wave the arms side to side. (Repeat for 10-15 breaths.)

Wide Standing Forward Fold Twist

Start with your feet parallel and your hands on your hips. Inhale lift your heart to the sky, exhale to fold and release over your legs. Release your head and let your teeth part. On your inhale place the right hand in front of the face and peel the left arm to the sky for a twist. (Take 5 deep breaths before switching sides.) Repeat as many times as you like.
