FP Book Club: 3 Summer Reads

Your summer reading list covered, for any and all trips…

So, you’re escaping this weekend? Looking for the perfect book to dig into while beach bummin’ it in the sand? Or, maybe the lake house is your next destination, and we all know the best thing to do while swinging away in the hammock is to flip the pages of a good ole’ mystery. I’ve got your summer reading list covered, for any and all trips.

Since We Fell, Dennis Lehane.

I don’t know about you, but I was a huge Mystic River and Shutter Island fan. So when I heard that the same author was releasing a new book, you could say I was a little bit excited. This psychological thriller is a page turner to say the least, and will keep your mind spinning in circles. The plot takes you deep into Rachel Child’s mind after the former journalist has an on-air breakdown and virtually shuts herself out from the world. This story sucks you into a conspiracy full of love, violence and deception. I read this one a couple weeks ago on vacation by the pool, and finished in just two days.

The Animators, Kayla Rae Whitaker.

Isn’t it funny how sometimes a cover can pull you into a book? This book was vibrant. Both on the cover, and through the pages. This novel really had a way of making me feel every emotion. Happy, sad, playful, creative. Quite honestly, I got so attached to the two women in this book that I purposefully read very slowly, trying to avoid a quick ending. The story of Mel and Sharon, two artists who meet in college, is a relatable one. Both girls are trying to understand their pasts, and claim what the future has in store for them. This book broke my heart a bit, but simply, in the best way possible.

Into The Water, Paula Hawkins.

I remember finishing Paula Hawkins last book, Girl On The Train, in one night. I couldn’t put it down. I’ve been awaiting the release of Into The Water for quite some time, and was not disappointed one bit. This murder mystery is a page turner, to say the least. Hawkins places you in an witchy English town along a river, and makes you feel as though you are living right there in the middle of all the suspense. I love when stories allow me to escape my present, and place me somewhere completely otherworldly.
