Three words that best describe NYC style are: Urban, Elegant, Unique

What is your favorite trend this season?

Some big NYC trends for this season are peter pan collars, embellishments (studding, eyelets, gems, etc.) and playing with sheer and matte fabrics in the same garment. I have to say right now I am really into the sheer/matte fabrics!! The sheer look goes GREAT with a FP lacey bandeau!

What do you love most about New York?

Everyone has a purpose in New York. The energy of the city is like no other place. Everyone is full of major drive and ambition; it is inspiring to be in NY.

How would you describe your personal style? Which free people girl are you?

I have to say I am a Lou girl! NYC might be disappointed in me! I love to get dressed up once in a while, but you will usually catch me in baggy rugged sweaters, tunics, chunky jewelry and boots (lots of layering!) My friends would definitely say I am the “boy girl.”

My 5 favorite FP items right now:

Style File: Assistant Buyer – Intimates

February 6th, 2012 / Posted by fp naomi / Permalink

This week’s Style File always manages to look cute, but is never too fussy or over the top. Overall her looks have a simple beauty to them. There’s a definite Lou vibe coming through in the practical and cozy looks she gravitates towards. The look is usually centered around one knockout piece – a scarf, an awesome dress, or a pretty slip. She’ll then through the Lou vibe for a loop with some Candy thrown in there in either a feminine print or flirty lace and ruffles.

Meet our LA Style Contest Winner!

February 3rd, 2012 / Posted by fp julia / Permalink

As you may recall, we had a little contest this month in conjunction with our January catalog and its NY vs. LA theme. We picked a winner for each city, and now its time to learn a little bit more about these stylish ladies – up first, our LA winner, Eva of Cathedral City, California!

I love the relaxed vibe of this outfit! Get the look with our fairisle pullover, feather headpiece and linen extreme flare.

la style4 Meet our LA Style Contest Winner!

Looking adorable in the floral woven pullover, ankle crop jean and saddle shoes.

What do you love most about Los Angeles?

I definitely love the diversity that exists in L.A.  It’s this huge melting pot of all kinds of people…mostly strange people [haha], but that is what makes L.A. interesting and unique.  It’s one of those cities where self expression is a must.

Three words that best describe California style are: Cool, chic, and trendy.

How would you describe your personal style? Which Free People girl  are you?

I would have to say I’m Meadow and Ginger mixed into one!!  I love the relaxed, carefree, bohemian look when I’m out during the day running errands, shopping, or having lunch/coffee with friends.  But I definitely appreciate a sexy mini dress paired with 5 inch platforms when I’m hitting the town!

What is your favorite trend this season?

Colorblocking seems very popular this season…haven’t tried it yet, but definitely something I would love to try.  Who knew that not matching could ever look so cute?!?!

Office Style: Ladylike and Cool

February 2nd, 2012 / Posted by fp naomi / Permalink

There’s a distinct trend in fashion that has been extremely noticeable around the office these past few months. Employees are embracing their feminine side with a look marked by retro-inspired blouses, peter pan collars, and oxford shoes. The flouncy shirts of the 40’s and 50’s are getting their second life – coming back styled with the coolness of inspirations like Alexa Chung. The retro look couldn’t be more refined and sophisticated, yet adventurous and hip at the same time. We like to pair the lady-like retro pieces back to jumpers and floppy hats for a look that we love so much, we’ve launched a new FP Girl inspired by the trend. Stay tuned next week to learn all about her, but for now, here’s a bit of ladylike and cool inspiration from around the Free People home offices…

Behind the Scenes: Valentine’s Day Special Shoot!

February 1st, 2012 / Posted by fp julia / Permalink

The other day I hung out in the studio for a bit while our team did a special Valentine’s Day shoot with model Linda Vojtova. It was such a fun shoot with candy and flower props, and Linda was kind enough to answer a few questions for the blog!

I love our studio team :)

I thought these flats they shot were so cute I had to share – they remind me of these exploded flowers! On the left is our new little fp one layering slip, which is currently in my shopping cart. I feel like it’s the perfect little outfit add-on that could be worn so many ways. In the middle, the galoon lace halter bra, which comes in so many fun pop colors, and on the right, the pretty printed lace crop bra.

Glam Life Sequin Dress, Double Breasted Vegan Leather Jacket, Lace Bandeau, Leather and Bead Wrap Bracelet, Sugar Mountain Ankle Boot.

Q&A with Linda Vojtova

Which dress would you wear for Valentine’s Day and how would you style it?

I love the glam life sequin dress! For Valentine’s Day I would wear it with a leather jacket, stockings and boots since it will probably be cold in New York City. But I love it because I could wear it in spring and summer with boots, and could wear it for so many different occasions.

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?

I’ll be in New York, where I live with my boyfriend of several years, and we’ll probably just try to cook a really great dinner, or go out somewhere nice.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever been given for Valentine’s Day?

A nice romantic getaway :)

What’s your favorite romantic comedy?

Pretty Woman! I used to watch it almost every day.
