Thursday Poll: Mini Skirts

February 2nd, 2012 / Posted by fp naomi / Permalink

You may typically think “maxi” when you think of Free People, but this coming Spring we’re mixing it up, and delving into an assortment of mini’s. They’re fun and flirty – definitely a playful item to have in your wardrobe. Some are sexier while others are more lady-like. Which style do you all prefer?

Love Letters from Around the World

January 27th, 2012 / Posted by fp julia / Permalink

Over the past few weeks, I have had the pleasure of seeing many of your love letters come through via email and snail mail – they have brought a smile to my face every day and we’re so grateful you shared them with us! Our visual display team compiled all of your submissions and created some amazing installations for our Philly store.  When I saw them, I had a hard time tearing my eyes away from all of your touching words, photos and artistic creations. Thank you all so much – its a beautiful thing to have your personal touch in our store!

  • Maliha says:

You have no idea how badly I have been looking for a room divided with fabric back and foam and all where I can stick stuff up with tac. I couldn’t find anything. I wish I could make one for myself, but I’m no good with DIY things. AT least I can’t do it unless I know how to do it. Any way you could share where to get something like this or at least how to make something like this?

Thursday Poll: Volume and Print

December 29th, 2011 / Posted by fp naomi / Permalink

The Free People girl is not one to shy away from a statement. She’s bold, she takes up a lot of room, and she’s not afraid of color. She likes to push the limits, and that’s exactly why we have the most amazing collection of printed voluminous pants on the site right now. These pieces flip the rules on their head, and draw attention to the bottom half of an outfit. A few, with their flower child bohemian vibe, live in the Nouveau Boho trend while others are funky and psychedelic. We’re loving the can’t-miss-it look. Which statement, printed bottoms do you like best?

The last pant the slouch pant seems to me that the 80’s are back and they just look to me like they shrunk. The bell bottoms 70’s were way cooler time of fashion and the collate pant reminds me of Thai pants but with a twist. All look super comfy and a nice switch from the usual.

  • jackie says:

I really like all of them besides tiki pant.

  • Taylor says:

I am obsessed with wideleg and bellbottom pants! I have the floral fields one in the first color that came out. –they are so comfy. wore them yesterday! I love all of these pants! Wish I could have them all!

Hot Quinoa Cereal

December 18th, 2011 / Posted by fp naomi / Permalink

This week’s recipe is an adaptation from one of Julie Morris’s Superfood Cuisine recipes. Ever since she sent me her cookbook a couple of months ago, I’ve had a lot of fun reading through it and experimenting. I’ve quickly jumped onto the superfood bandwagon, especially loving how these ingredients remain relevant year-round. This hot quinoa bowl is the prime example of this – nutrient rich, but hearty and warm – great to prepare you for stepping out into a cold winter morning.

This is the first time I’m ever introducing Maca Powder as an ingredient here on the blog, so for those of you who are unfamiliar, here’s a little rundown:  Maca is a root indigenous to the Peruvian Andes, and previously discovered by the Inca. The root is great for increasing strength and energy without acting as a stimulant. Today, it’s also known as a great stress regulator with strong adaptive qualities. It contains more than 60 phytonutrients – minerals and amino acids, and also helps to block cholesterol absorption in the gut. I like to use Navitas Naturals brand which you can pick up at any Whole Foods.

Ingredients:

1 Cup Almond Milk

1/3 Cup Quinoa

1 Tsp Maca Powder

3 Medjool Dates

½ Banana

1 Tbsp Sliced Almonds

Drizzle of Honey

Directions

Pour almond milk and quinoa into a pot over low flame. As soon as the milk begins to boil, turn off the flame, cover and let sit for another 4 minutes or so.

While your quinoa is cooking, pit and chop dates, then throw them in a bowl with your other left over ingredients – except the honey.

Check to see that your quinoa has puffed up. Once it has, pour everything in together, add honey, and stir.

Hey Julia, I didn’t rinse the quinoa – just added it straight in.

  • julia says:

looks fantastic! however, this recipe doesn’t mention to rinse the quinoa – which is usually recommended to remove the bitter taste. did you rinse the quinoa or just add it to the almond milk as is?

  • ladysadie says:

If you dry toast your quinoa (stir it constantly in a pan over low/medium heat) for four minutes or so before adding liquid it will give your quinoa a nuttier flavor. :)

Shoe Style: Western Boots

December 13th, 2011 / Posted by fp julia / Permalink

If you follow us on twitter, you know that today is a little thing called “Tuesday Shoesday” – a celebration of awesome shoe style :) With that in mind, today I thought I’d highlight some of our newest boots that are right up my alley! We love western style boots right now – they are perfect to take your basic jeans and tee up a notch, adding a little something cool and special to a simple look. The pattern inset boots add some funky print and color, and a little bit of stitching or a buckle adds a unique touch.
