who doesn’t love snow globes? there’s something very nostalgic and whimsical about them. plus you can bring a pretty little wintry scene into your home and make it snow whenever you want. i found some instructions on how to make them, and it seems really easy…
these handmade snow globes from martha stewart are simple and sweet. you can use almost any kind of jar to make them…the instructions suggest painting the lids in seasonal colors. find the plastic or ceramic figurines at flea markets or hobby and craft shops, and synthetic evergreen tips at floral-supply stores.
next, sand the inside of the lid until the surface is rough and use clear-drying epoxy to adhere the figurine to the inside of the lid. let the epoxy dry.
fill the jar almost to the top with distilled water. add a little bit of fake snow or silver or white glitter and a dash (not too much!) of glycerin (available at drugstores) to keep the glitter from falling too quickly.
screw the lid on tightly, turn it over and let it snow!
holiday season is in full swing here at the navy yard…i went over to building 543, where our cafeteria is located, and found some people decorating gingerbread cookies…
543 is getting all decked out for the holidays…the decorations look lovely…

one of our readers informed me of this amazing company called squint, located in england, that makes furniture, light fixtures and home accessories. they look like they would be a perfect fit for a free people store! their collections use a mix of contemporary and vintage fabrics, as well as woven english damasks, 19th century french trimmings, and japanese ceremonial kimono silks. i am in love with the dresser…
I really like the soft and blended feel of these transition wallpapers by Danish designer Lene Toni Kjeld. The set of prints are designed to go blend together seamlessly, so that if you have maybe an open layout in your house, or a huge room, you can have two or three patterns of wallpaper that fade into one another. It looks so gorgeous, and I love the decayed look of the prints!

I love this clever floor! It’s all tiled with pennies! I bet it shines in the light very appealingly too! See it in person at The Standard Grill in the Standard Hotel in New York City!

Okay, so I don’t want to live here, but I definitely really want to visit! The site where these pictures originated is written in Japanese, so neither me nor Design-Crisis could make any sense of it, but the pictures speak for themselves anyway.

I Googled trying to find this house, found it...under comments, some guy from Taiwan said it was in Hsin-Chu, Taiwan, and not in Shanghai, China..just Google!
I need one of these! Mangekyo means “kaleidoscope” in Japanese, and this one projects colored moving shapes and lines on your walls and ceiling! I love it! Get one here.

For a very long time, we had a funny little patched round bench in the center of our lobby, with an umbrella over the top of it! At the end of last week though, we were all very interested to see a giant sea-green box sitting in the center of our lobby instead! You can see the lonely umbrella awaiting its fate in the background. (Don’t worry, its fate is probably just to get used somewhere else.)
We had an idea of what might be next when we noticed that they were filling the box with dirt! You can see I’ve been spotted by the cute dirt shovelers…
They came up with a better idea of how to move the dirt – a golf cart!
Next came the plants!
Wow! Look at that vibrant little garden! Practically a forest!
Ah! I love having this new green around! It’s soo relaxing! Now, what’s way cooler than the pictures I took is the video Carrie took! She set up a camera in the hallway and made a time-lapse video of everyone putting the garden together! It is really funny to watch it all sped up! Check it out!

What is the song playing in the background? I love it!
Aren’t these little chair socks by Chris&Ruby funny? I can see how they’d be useful though, if you didn’t want to scuff up a nice floor or something. They look pretty cute! Via.

Oh my worddd, I LOVE these chair socks!!! haha so cute!
Susie at Apartment Therapy came across a fun little tool on Paper Source‘s site: the colorscope!
The colorscope seeks to explain a bit about your personality based on the colors you like the best. Who knows where they came up with the personality traits you supposedly have if you like, say, plum, but it’s still really fun!
Here are the ones I picked!
I thought mine were pretty right for the most part, but I’m a sucker for anything that professes to tell me about myself from my palm, or my birthday, etc…
At any rate it was good fun! Check out the colorscope for yourself right here. Does yours fit your personality?
