pennies on the floor

I love this clever floor! It’s all tiled with pennies! I bet it shines in the light very appealingly too! See it in person at The Standard Grill in the Standard Hotel in New York City!

This is so cool! It reminds me of the Cildo Meireles work "Mission/Missions (How to build a Cathedral)" and since you enjoyed this pennies floor I thought you might dig the Meireles too. Pic here of the whole thing, though it's so gorgeous in person, it really does feel like a holy/reverent area with the lighting and intimacy: http://austin.about.com/od/museums/ig/BlantonMuseum/Meireles-Blanton-Exhibit-.htm And here's me touching it! It was in London so all the coins were pence, not pennies: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lhall/3188138613/ A shot of the bones opposite the coins: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lhall/3188140679/in/photostream/

Okay, so I don’t want to live here, but I definitely really want to visit! The site where these pictures originated is written in Japanese, so neither me nor Design-Crisis could make any sense of it, but the pictures speak for themselves anyway.

I Googled trying to find this house, found it...under comments, some guy from Taiwan said it was in Hsin-Chu, Taiwan, and not in Shanghai, China..just Google!

mangekyo

I need one of these! Mangekyo means “kaleidoscope” in Japanese, and this one projects colored moving shapes and lines on your walls and ceiling! I love it! Get one here.

too cute bathplugs

I came across two really sweet stoppers for your drain today – I am not sure which one is cuter! I love them both!

So cute! I have been trying to think up a style for a little decoration for my bath plug.

For a very long time, we had a funny little patched round bench in the center of our lobby, with an umbrella over the top of it! At the end of last week though, we were all very interested to see a giant sea-green box sitting in the center of our lobby instead! You can see the lonely umbrella awaiting its fate in the background. (Don’t worry, its fate is probably just to get used somewhere else.)

We had an idea of what might be next when we noticed that they were filling the box with dirt! You can see I’ve been spotted by the cute dirt shovelers…

They came up with a better idea of how to move the dirt – a golf cart!

Next came the plants!

Wow! Look at that vibrant little garden! Practically a forest!

Ah! I love having this new green around! It’s soo relaxing! Now, what’s way cooler than the pictures I took is the video Carrie took! She set up a camera in the hallway and made a time-lapse video of everyone putting the garden together! It is really funny to watch it all sped up! Check it out!

What is the song playing in the background? I love it!

chair socks

Aren’t these little chair socks by Chris&Ruby funny? I can see how they’d be useful though, if you didn’t want to scuff up a nice floor or something. They look pretty cute!

Susie at Apartment Therapy came across a fun little tool on Paper Source‘s site: the colorscope!
The colorscope seeks to explain a bit about your personality based on the colors you like the best. Who knows where they came up with the personality traits you supposedly have if you like, say, plum, but it’s still really fun!
Here are the ones I picked!

I thought mine were pretty right for the most part, but I’m a sucker for anything that professes to tell me about myself from my palm, or my birthday, etc…
At any rate it was good fun! Check out the colorscope for yourself right here. Does yours fit your personality?

honbachi

These honbachi, or book pots, were created by graphic designers Tokyo Pistol. I really like how they look! I feel like it would be really easy to make one on your own with an old disheveled book, but one perk of buying one from Tokyo Pistol would that the old book you got would be in Japanese! Check out the bindings on the books stacked in the picture! Pretty sweet…

gallant tales

How cool is this wallpaper by Gallant Tales?! To me it looks kind of like someone drew on the walls with a Bic pen! I don’t know if it was that guy’s Sharpie marker basement decor that put me in the mood for it, but I really like it!
Via Oh Joy!

sharpie marker decor

Charlie Kratzer started drawing on his basement walls right in the middle, with a drawing of a painting by Picasso. From there he figured it wouldn’t be too hard to extend the drawings out to the edge of the walls – one thing lead to another, until he had decorated all of his basement walls with his drawings, using 10 dollars worth of Sharpie markers!

Why don’t people do more things like this? I love it! Artist Posterchild turned this abandoned newspaper box into a planter, with the help of a couple pieces of wood! There are so many empty newspaper boxes around Philly – I think we need some flowers for them! Click here for better pictures.

This crazy concrete, called Solid Poetry and designed by Frederik Molenschot and Susanne Happle, shows a pretty design whenever it gets wet, only to have it disappear again once the concrete is dry! I love it! I wish all sidewalks were made with this concrete!
