Fall Favorites

It’s come to that season where gift giving is on everyone’s mind and we always need a helping hand in knowing what special items are out there. We went around our home office and asked our seniors what items they are all about this Fall.

Here they tell us what item they love from out Fall collection

Pleated lace trim cropped top

Office Style

Western-inspired looks were everywhere around the office this week. Sprinkled throughout, I picked up on notes of fringe, brass, and hide.  People were tying handkerchiefs around their necks and throwing on boots like the old cattle ranchers. Others interpreted a more feminine side, piling their heads high with braids and showing off lace-up stockings.

my jaw is on the floor – gold-tipped snakeskin cowboy boots…

Trend inspiration: Mod

Stepping into my mod world…

When free people launched this trend I became all nostalgic, being British I studied this movement through my fashion and design course and feel honored that one of the significant designers of this time is from my homeland Wales. When I think of MOD I think of Mary Quant amongst other things. She was a Welsh fashion designer and British icon, who was instrumental in the mod fashion movement; she was one of the designers who took credit for inventing the miniskirt and hot pants and showed a generation how to dress to please themselves, she created the ‘London Look’ that was so apparent during this time.

What mod means to me?

To me mod means ‘swinging London’ a time when fashion and style was everything, a time when mods and rockers became huge rebels and pop culture influenced fashion in a big way, psychedelic rock and bob haircuts… now I wish I was right in the thick of things in carnaby street London, 1960’s

Here’s my inspiration and a great editorial I found in self service magazine starring Arizona Muse and Daphne Groeneveld

items: russian print mini skirt, Mohair plaid mini skirt, polka dot blouse, rhiannon two tone platform

Thursday Poll: Hung Up on Prints Collection

One day while I was walking back from getting lunch, an adorable little clothesline caught my eye. A collection of printed bras hung all in a row, fastened by wooden clothespins and swaying in the wind. A bit later the scene was up on our site as the gateway for our “Hung Up on Prints” collection of printed bras. The assortment is out of this world. I almost want to buy one of each and recreate the scene in my bedroom.

Which would you pick for your clothesline?

Holiday Book Sneak Peek: Free People Through the Decades

I am beyond excited about this year’s holiday book and today I can finally give you a sneak peek! This year we decided to pay homage to the fashion of bygone decades that still influences us today.  We traveled back in time to Paris in the 1920s, America in the 1950s and Morocco in the 1970s before finishing up with the Modern Girl, a girl who mixes her favorite trends from the past with her vision of the future.

Which decade is your favorite so far?

My Mod Wall

You all saw Julia’s mod inspiration yesterday, and now here’s a peak into what mod means to me. I chose the image above because I love the outfit’s chic ladylike look. She’s sophisticated, but creative, and everyone wants a look into her world.

Boucle Textured Jacket, Polka Dot Blouse, Thermal Shortie, and Leigh Platform Ankle Boot

Housewares: Clock. This clock is so modern with its clean lines and stark contrasts. I can’t help but think back to the days of mod. Its roundness also mirrors the polka dots in her blouse.

Hobbie: Painting. When I think of the mod days Andy Warhol pops into my head. I think this was an extremely creative time, and I picture our girl in a studio apartment, inspired by Warhol and painting away.

The muse: My grandmother. This is a photo that I stole from one of my grandparents many photo albums. The pages are packed with my grandma in retro clothing, always maintaining herself in a feminine and proper way. The highly styled hair, the blouses, and especially the coats all remind me of the mod image.

Animal: Zebra. Wild souls that have never been tamed…they run free as a bold contrast throughout their environment. The mod woman is attracted to their vivacity, and can’t help but love that pattern…

The Scent: Miss Dior Cherie. The bottle is so prim and proper, but the scent inside is kind of funky. I picture this girl having the bottle sitting on her vanity as she gets ready each morning.

DIY: Fancy Collars

Shirts seem to be a trend everyone is diving into right now, including me.  That preppy school girl is becoming cool again but there seems to be a twist. I’m seeing people buttoning their shirts right up to the top so the collar becomes a feature (see blog post here) and they’re not scared to get adventurous with it either. So here we’ve made our very own DIY where we’ve made the collar a little more decorative!

What you will need;

Measure the length of the collar and cut trim to size

Sew the trim around the collar

Then style as you wish, we love it under cropped sweaters

And here’s a little idea to jazz a shirt up a little for holiday season; buy some iron diamond, decorate the edges and shine on!

A diary of a fashion blogger….

I love weekends, don’t you? Come Wednesday I’m lusting for Saturday morning to come. I wake up to the smell of French roast coffee and snooze until I’m ready to step foot outside of the cozy blankets. No alarm, no rushing just a peaceful mind looking forward to two days that you can dedicate to yourself. My mindset right now is all about HALLOWEEN. I decorated my house a little, placed a pumpkin amongst my flea market finds and a little Halloween man on top of my crate box.

I’m leaning towards an autumn leaf vibe; my aesthetic seems to be turning all rustic and autumnal from wearing dark floral prints to gathering earthly things for my home.

It’s that time of year again and I love it!
