Post image for all about rumi

get to know a little more about our third october catalog model, rumi neely!

If you could go anywhere in the world, free of cost, where would you go?

Stockholm – They have amazing street style! I love checking out Swedish blogs.

If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you want with you?

My cat, kumo, my ipod, and sunscreen.

1a

photos from her blog, fashiontoast.

How would you describe your personal style? What are your favorite items from Free People right now?

I like really casual pieces with slightly off silhouettes and details that set them apart. I love platform heels.  It’s slightly grungy or hippie, whatever mood I am in that day. My favorite item from the free people shoot were the gee wawa fatale platform boots!

P7121386-1

What is your biggest fear?

Being buried alive!

Winter, spring, summer or fall?

Spring.

What color are you?

Blue…not to sound depressing.

photo from her blog, fashiontoast.

What is your favorite hobby?

Going to thrift stores! I love the randomness of thrift stores and seeing what your instinct guides you towards.

If you could spend a day with anyone – dead or alive – who would it be?

Andy Warhol.

What’s the last album you bought? What else is on your ipod right now?

The last album I bought was Monsters of Folk…some other bands on my ipod are Band of Horses, Julian Casablancas and Sigur Ros.

If you weren’t a fashion blogger what would you do?

Focus more on my vintage store. I’d love to be a vintage buyer or photographer.

When you started your blog did you ever think it would become the sensation it is today?

Never! I’ve thought about changing the name but I don’t think I can now.

Post image for It’s getting cold outside

But I still want to be sensual! When it gets cold out I usually live in the same outfit every single day… it consist of Skinny jeans, hoody, pea coat and warm boots.

This time around however I want to get a little creative with our lingerie, though – adding a little bit of cuteness to the everyday denims and sweaters. Here’re some looks that our stylist in the studio hellped us create in our studio the other day, we were in awe of all the delicate items so we decided to make them come to life by creating little outfit ideas!

Silky slips and velvet bralettes add a touchy/feely vibe to your winter wardrobe.

Not all items are online yet but will be pretty soon, I can’t wait!

Post image for fp loves…herno puffer jackets

i wanted to tell you guys a little bit more about these awesome herno puffer jackets we have right now!

herno was founded in italy in 1948 and originally specialized in men’s raincoats. over the years the company evolved to offer a women’s collection and in the last decade has conducted advanced research on performance – in their new range they are introducing high tech fabrics like polyamide to create high quality jackets that are a fusion of tradition and modernity. these are the ultimate winter jackets – not only will tthey keep  you dry and warm, they will last you for years and years.

we have two styles of herno jackets- the reversible down hoodie and the down blazer.  i especially love the reversible one because you can change it up with different looks! i hate winter but these jackets are almost making me look forward to snowy days and weekend ski trips… hanging at the lodge by a fire with a cup of hot chocolate.

i love how the jackets look paired with a body con skirt, over the knee socks and tall boots, or with skinny jeans and a flannel! here are some fp items i’d style them with:

style

items pictured: long sleeve reversible down hoodie; long sleeve down blazer; we the free plaid button down; rich & skinny moto crop; webs we weave topsonia bracelet; fairisle reversible beanie; textured body con skirt; plaid and flower tall sock; rogan tall hiker.

bon voyage…

hair tip!

Post image for hair tip!

so a couple of you have asked us how we get our models’ hair so relaxed, wavy and perfect… which is a great question. so i asked our hair/makeup artist deanna and here is her method! i tried it out myself and it works wonderfully…

first, slightly dampen hair with a styling spray – she uses bumble and bumble.

next, separate the hair into two pieces down the center. then separate those two into two. start with 2 strands, either the left side or the right of head,  and twist the hair away from the face. then take the 2 twisted strands and twist them together. secure on top of head with a hair clip.

allow time to dry, then remove clips and shake out hair.

101_4842.JPG

and that’s it!

Burgie -Oct 22, 2012, 12:04AM
I have curly/wavy hair and this doesn't give me that bed head look. Any help? Thanks
supergirl -Nov 15, 2010, 9:01AM
haha, beautiful hair style, very natural. Will this work even on super thin hair?

wednes-diy

Post image for wednes-diy

my boss has a sweater with patches on the elbows and i always thought it was the cutest thing.  then i saw this photo a couple of weeks ago and a light bulb went on.  this is an easy project!

what you need:

a sweatshirt or sweater that you don’t mind experimenting with…

one

fabric, needle & thread, scissors, safety pins, and something about the size that you want the patches to be.  our visual display team let me use this scrap of pretty fabric, and i happened to have this free people sticker at my desk that was just the right size for the patches!

101_4699

first i used a sharpie to trace around the edges of the sticker on the fabric, and then cut out the patches being careful to cut right inside the marker line.

101_4703

101_4715

next i pinned the patches onto the elbows of the sweater and tried it on to make sure they were placed where i wanted them to be.  keep the safety pins in as you start sewing so the patches don’t move.

101_4716

i sewed them on by hand yesterday at work and it only took about an hour -  i think sewing while listening to music has got to be one of the most relaxing things ever :)

101_4721

101_4722

and voila… cute elbow patches that breathe new life into a plain old sweater!

Jessica -Oct 21, 2010, 10:31AM
@nats I used to make jewelry all day long in the summer. Incubus' Morning View was my album of choice during those special years!
Jessica -Oct 21, 2010, 10:28AM
Speaking of vintage fabrics, when my grandfather died, my mom gave me all his old ties. I used them as belts for a while, but this would also be a great use since it doesn't require too much fabric!
