a reader sent me the link to these beautiful photos taken by katie stoops, using some of our clothing! i love the outdoor setting of the photos but i think my favorites are the close-ups because they really show the beautiful details of some of our pieces. check out more of katie’s work here.

during the 1950s and 1960s, morocco was a refuge for writers and musicians from abroad, including the rolling stones, jack kerouac and william s. burroughs, who wrote the legendary naked lunch while staying at a hotel in tangier. morocco was to the rolling stones what india was to the beatles – they traveled there in the late 1960s in search of musical inspiration and found that and much more. the fusion of berber, african and arabic music had a huge influence on the rolling stones’ sound but they were also enthralled by the atmosphere of the country – especially the somewhat seedy city of tangier – home at the time to spies, smugglers, expatriate aristocrats and writers-in-exile. they arrived in the british mod style and left in billowing shirts, weighed down by bracelets, necklaces and various trinkets. about his experiences in morocco, keith richards said “we enjoyed being transported. you could be sinbad the sailor, one thousand and one nights. we loved it.”
the stones were part of a large crowd of swinging londoners who regularly visited morocco in the 60s. one of the most iconic photos representing morocco and the bohemian culture of the 1960s is of talitha getty, wife of paul getty, shot by patrick lichfield on the roof of their home in marrakech. our team was inspired to recreate this photo when shooting our catalog in morocco- here is our version!
good morning! our team sent along this awesome behind the scenes photo from california, where they’re shooting our fall wholesale catalog. the location looks so beautiful, i can’t wait to see the end result!
last week’s poll turnout was amazing! 1,525 votes and only 9 votes separated the winner (girl number 5) from second place (girl number one) – and in case you didn’t figure it out, the winner was sandy and second place was candy :)
our topanga, california store had a tea party over the weekend to celebrate their second birthday – check out these great pics from the event! in addition to tea and treats they had a model in store to give styling ideas, and fp girl karla hand painted frames and wrapped them in green tissue paper as adorable little gifts for anyone who made a purchase :)
check out all the girls who came out for the event in their cute outfits below!
as we told you earlier this week, to get our special web shots for the twisted classics trend, we went to nearby FDR park to get some shots of ‘lou’ on her skateboard. it was a gorgeous spring afternoon and i think we were all a little excited to get out of the office for a bit and enjoy the weather- here are some behind the scenes photos of our team at work!
lou is our guy’s girl – a tomboy with a feminine side who can be sexy without losing her rough and tumble, rock n’ roll edge. she’s the type of girl who can roll out of bed and throw on cutoffs and a t-shirt and walk out the door without any makeup. the key to her style is being ready to hop on her skateboard or bike at a moment’s notice and disappear in a cloud of dust, because she’s always moving – with the wind in her hair and her beat-up sneakers or boots on her feet.
to capture the gritty style and energy that is lou we went to FDR park in philadelphia, a perfect location with its mix of grunge and beauty. it winds around a scenic lake with ducks and blossoming trees and ends under the highway with a skatepark, where the sound of wheels grinding on concrete made our ‘lou’ right at home. here are some of our special shots to give you some insight into the spirit of lou!
She grew up building dams in rivers and climbing trees. She’s been nurtured into one of the boys. She’s adventurous and not afraid of the outdoors. Spontaneity calls to her and Skate parks are where you’d find her, swinging on bars, teasing the air around her. This girl likes to twist her favorite classics – fedoras, cargos, pinstripes and retro sneakers until they are out lived. Say hello to Lou…
I’ve been trying to get into this mindset ever since I watched the Lords of Dog town film starring Heath Ledger and Emile Hirsch (2005) however I don’t think I have the attitude!
As soon as I heard about this trend I jumped straight to Erin Wasson for inspiration (who wouldn’t… right?)
She’s at the top of the hierarchy when it come to skater cool. I take a note out of her book when it comes to styling.
the winner of the space 15 twenty spring outfit contest is adalinda! i love how she took a simple outfit and played it up with accessories – she looks comfy and stylish! as winner, she received a gift card and her outfit was featured on the space 15 twenty blog.
about a three hour drive through the desert to the west of marrakech will bring you to the seaside town of essaouira in morocco. from the pictures you can feel the laid back vibe of a quaint fishing town, but essaouira also has an artistic culture that is very much alive- its medina houses several arts and crafts businesses, the beach is an ideal location for kite and windsurfing, and for the past 12 years the town has hosted the gnaoua festival of world music. often referred to as the “moroccan woodstock,” the festival lasts four days and attracts close to a half million spectators. one of the city’s most famous landmarks is the castle made of sand- said to be the inspiration for the jimi hendrix song, although he hadn’t yet visited essaouira when he wrote it. several images from our april catalog were shot in essaouira, and in looking through these photos i can certainly see why our team was drawn there.
