Post image for flower girl

our lazy daisy floral jumpsuit made an appearance on cocorosa’s blog today!

she says, “i simply couldn’t resist the free people throwback romper. i love the bohemian vibe and it’s so easy and comfortable to wear… i could totally visualize myself standing between meadows and wildflowers…… hmmmmmm summer…..”

i love how she’s paired it with a vintage blouse underneath and platform shoes. she looks like she stepped right out of the seventies!

you can find the jumpsuit online, here.

Post image for march catalog drops tomorrow!

…and it’s a beauty.  says our creative director: “we wanted to keep it simple on a set rather than on location because we wanted the clothes and the outfits to shine on their own.”

and shine they do- this book makes me so excited for spring flowers and warm sunshine. i could totally see myself wearing any one of these outfits at a concert or music festival!

i’m dying over that outfit on the far right in the middle – the flare jeans, ruffle top and headband – sooo cute. shop the march catalog here!

Post image for fp loves…sarah lewis

sarah, a long time member of the free people family, used to work with us here at the home office as an accessories designer, but more recently she has launched her own line of jewelry.  she has a shop in philadelphia called adorn, and her work has won several awards and has been featured in juried shows and exhibitions.  we are so excited to welcome her back as a featured jewelry designer!

a lover of nature, sarah was introduced to metalworking and lapidary (the process of taking raw materials like stones, minerals and gemstones and transforming them into decorative items) while living in arizona.  she loves crystals and minerals and creating simple settings that showcase the natural beauty of the stones, as well as combining materials like glass, silver and stones in unique ways. the result is a small-scale wearable sculpture that is earthy and bohemian, but modern and fashionable.  the use of raw, earthy materials, stones, feathers and dream catchers make her jewelry a perfect fit for the natural, free-spirited girl.  sarah appreciates the preciousness of jewelry, and most of her pieces are one-of-a-kind, making them even more special.

sarah also draws inspiration from everything around her and everything she does, including fashion, travel, music, her family and friends – we are inspired by her and all that she has become!

check out sarah’s jewelry featured throughout the march catalog, and on our website.

shes on etsy too. :)

Seems a bit overpriced to me. I've seen better pieces on ETSY.COM for more reasonable prices. Beautiful nonetheless.

Fp One

Post image for Fp One

Here’s a bit of insight into one of our Exclusive Brands!!!

Fp One is a very inspiring ‘Gem’ within the Free People community. I chatted with the brains behind the Fp One brand on the phone the other day, about how this label came about and couldn’t help but be slightly overwhelmed by her tales and experiences.

The designer for Fp One has lived in India for 20 years. Whilst visiting, she became intrigued and inspired by how these beautiful Indian workers, worked so effectively from their homes using traditional hand crafted techniques. She found herself joining these workers and getting involved in the process alongside them “ It was very hands on, and became very effective with the design process” She helped them make traditional techniques modern, to create items that now contribute to Free people’s top sellers!

The design details used on the Fp One garments are ideas that came from the design elements in the Free People stores like the Hangers, Curtains, Cushion covers and the mannequins. The designer for Fp One would play around with found fabrics that were easy and accessible to obtain, to create one-of-a kind fashion pieces with amazing character to them. You’ll find that most of the Fp One items are never the same as another in its style group.

With the crinkle items that are doing well for us at the moment a technique is used that has been inhabited by the Indian workers for over 100 years, it’s a traditional technique made effective.

When the Fp One designer finds fabrics that are great she likes to push them to the best of their ability. Say for instance the Muslin Voile fabric that is used for the shopper bag in stores – it is also used for the ‘ends in sequins dress’ and the ‘petticoat dress’ featured on the front cover of the March Catalog – yep the same fabric can you believe it.

The Fp one items have a huge exclusivity appeal about them, just like vintage items do. I love how crafted each one is, the raw-ness of them and the delicate nature they have.

They are precious in more ways than one!

Lisa Weisker -May 05, 2012, 12:50PM
I,too find most of your clothing a bit steep for my budget RIGHT now but will continue to go to your page to look @ all the luciousness you have to offer.FP has the lovliest clothing and all is to my taste...
Ashley -Mar 05, 2011, 12:56PM
I'm in love with free people. The clothes are beautiful, especially the vintage items. Everything is amazingly creative and I can't stop going through the site and looking at all the beautiful clothing. It's inspiring. I just wish the clothing was cheaper. My budget doesn't even let me touch the stuff on sale. I come from a middle-class family and am still waiting to get my own job, as I'm a teenager. I think you would be very much influential if you created a line for the more common range of prices. I think you guys could do it and revolutionize fashion. Just an idea(;

romper room

Post image for romper room

i really love rompers right now. i definitely want to get a couple and will probably live in them all summer! i was thinking about these special pieces and wondering about when they first came to be… thought i’d share the little history with you.

rompers first became popular in the 1950s as beach/lounge wear! as the trend caught on, designers dressed them up a little so they could also be worn in more formal occasions too.
now, they’re everything from cute, casual, dressy, beachy, and everything in between.

they’re just a great look – and another reason i cannot wait for spring :)

check out our rompers here.

Lea -Mar 05, 2010, 2:29PM
I so agree, rompers are adorable and can't wait to wear them. Thanks for lovely history review! :)

Post image for happy birthday dr. seuss

“don’t cry because it’s over.  smile because it happened.”  – dr. seuss

what was your favorite dr. seuss book?  mine was always the cat in the hat…i loved thing 1 and thing 2  :)

Emily -Mar 28, 2010, 10:26AM
I like "the Lorax" very much. Theres a quote I thought would go good on this site. My friend told me about it a while ago and we cried when we heard it. "Today you are you that is truer than true there is no one alive that is youer than you"-Dr. Seuss
Marilyn -Mar 03, 2010, 9:19PM
My favorite was The Five Hundred Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins. :D Its the best! Its about a kid who tried to take off his hat for the king but there is always a hat underneath. Most of the book is the king trying to take his hat off.
