my greatest loves are my yorkie, art, traveling, swings, anything vintage, and all my nieces and nephews. i also love to bake and am always looking for new things to try – dessert is my weakness! on weekends i love to go out and explore the suburbs of philadelphia looking for new places to eat, shop, or just to take a nice walk. at night you will most likely find me downtown philadelphia at a bar where my boyfriend is DJ-ing having drinks with friends!
i love yoga! my other hobbies are gardening and raising chickens. on a typical day off, i take my daughter to ballet class, garden all day and then have people over for food, wine and fun. my home is my favorite place in the world!
i like quirky girl singers…right now i like she & him…but i always like the cure.
as mentioned, our may catalog features real girls who work for free people. this month on the blog we’ll be profiling these lovely ladies and learning more about their life and style… starting with our web merchandiser!
i am inspired daily by the people i surround myself with. i have some very special people in my life, whether they are best friends, family members or work acquaintances, they’re all here for a reason.
i LOVE to travel… the pure, clean, crisp air of the colorado mountains gives me a feeling i can’t describe. a close second would have to be the redwood national forest in california- a magical place for sure! i also love going out to eat and trying new restaurants, and cooking. i’m just starting to teach myself, so i started a cooking club dinner night with my girlfriends. some of my favorite things are live music, dancing at concerts with friends, pilates, riding my bike and hikes with my new pup… and flipping through fashion mags, which thankfully has become part of my job! on a typical day off i sleep in with my dog, cat and boyfriend – yes,all in one bed – make banana pancakes and take a walk to the farmer’s market, then maybe stroll around the city with a girlfriend, checking out shops and getting manicures. then out to see a show with some friends at night or dinner with my boyfriend!
i love lots of kinds of music – everything from biggie smalls to hank williams jr. some of my all-time favorites: the disco biscuits (i have followed them on tour for the past 10 years… so yeah, i guess i like them) phish- they changed my life, grateful dead, pink floyd, radiohead, muse, zeppelin, the doors, jay z, beck, nirvana…
and some newer favorites: phoenix, gorillaz, MGMT, hot chip, passion pit
our may catalog drops tomorrow! this book is very close to our hearts- because it features real fp girls. this month on the blog we will be bringing you behind the scenes photos and video from the catalog shoot as well as a glimpse into the lives of the girls who grace its pages – they are all so beautiful on the inside and out.
when it comes to bohemian style one of the first things that come to my mind are the sixties and seventies and photos of my mom in bell bottom jeans, long skirts and peasant tops – looking through photos of her in her twenties is so inspirational. was your mom a total free people girl when she was young?
send us a photo of your mom in a boho, vintage outfit and we will pick a winner and recreate the clothing depicted in the photo! the runner up will receive a $100 gift card.
happy thursday! for today’s poll let’s take a look at our hat collection – when our girls were down at coachella they saw hats everywhere, and we have some great ones for festival wear. they also just happen to be one of my favorite accessories… which one do you like best??
she’s a dreamer, a soul-searcher and a wanderer. drifting along, deep in thought, her eyes tell tales of mysterious adventures. meadow is our bohemian girl who wears loose, flowing tops and dresses that catch the breeze as she roams the earth in search of inspiration. she mixes patterns and prints and piles on jewelry with a handmade, natural touch. on her feet are moccasins or sandals but she’d rather be barefoot. she hears music wherever she goes – at one with nature, she’ll often pause to smell a flower, pet an animal or just to take in the beauty that surrounds her. little trinkets and memorabilia like leaves, stones, a matchbook with thoughts strewn across it, fill her pockets and then the pages of her journals when she eventually returns home.
here are some picks that I could see meadow wearing:
if you ever want to be transported to a world of psychedelic spirituality, look no further than the artwork of brandi strickland. she is a north carolina-based mixed media collage and illustration artist, and her talents know no boundaries. i first heard of her when i wrote about the WAFA collective a little while back (she’s one of their contributing artists) and i was completely enthralled with her work. the mix of color, pattern and symbolic imagery is so complex that when you view details of her collages up close you will notice far more than what you see at first glance. once i reached out to her and asked her some questions for the blog, i liked her even more- and i identify so much with the way she started out as an artist.
read on for an interview with brandi and to see much more of her rad artwork.
