new boys

The latest issue of Dazed has a cool piece on some of the newest models who walked the London catwalks this year. The pictures remind me of the work by Daniel Newman that I posted here a while back.

Meet our friend Brittaney! (And her fiancé Adam!)

Brittaney resides in Bellingham, Washington, and is one of the star item reviewers on our website! She reviews using the nickname mushroommoon, and is a total Free People girl, who loves to create and be outside!
She writes: I appreciate dark, earthy, grungy clothing with a fine feminine touch.
To our delight, Brittaney agreed to do a mini-interview with us and tell us a little more about herself! Read on…
So, what do you do for a living?
I am currently attending Western Washington University for a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Studio Art.
What do you like to do for fun?
When I’m not doing homework, I paint, cycle with my fiance Adam, roll around on the bed with our corgi Morton, obsessively read Marx, and garden. :)

mortonandi.jpg
What music do you enjoy?
My favorite bands are Joy Division, New Order, Talking Heads, Neil Young, Can, and Nick Drake!
Who is your style star?
David Byrne and Siouxsie Sioux!
What inspires you?
Working on a project in studio with filthy hands and filthy clothes…
Describe your style in 3 words.
grunge, flowers, earthy
Name 3 wardrobe essentials for summer!
Flip Flops, flowers in my hair, and mismatched, bright accessories!
Some final thoughts to share?
I only shop at the local Food Co-op. I buy organic, grow my own food, and I never eat factory farmed meat. Environmentalism is very important to me.

Yay! Thank you for sharing all this with us Brittaney! It’s been a pleasure!
If you would like to see all of Brittaney’s (a.k.a. mushroommoon’s) FP clothing reviews, click here! She has some helpful feedback!
Thanks again Brittaney!

One of our designers brought the picture below to my attention – it’s so fun to see people out and about wearing FP! It came from a Perez Hilton post about Kate’s new brunette hairdo – but check out her shirt! It’s our Printed Dreamweaver Tank in Purple Sun!

Ryanne, who designed the tank, was really psyched! And what’s extra cute is that she happens to be wearing that very tank, in that color, today! So random!
Here she is being happy and cute below!

I love this dreamy editorial from Harper’s Bazaar UK that I saw on Coco+Kelley! I especially love all the billowy layers in the first shot – that is an outfit for me!

Hooray! It’s Thursday, and it’s time for our Thursday Poll!
Last week we took a look at some of the many ways to wear our Riding Hood Convertible Tee, and decisively chose the racerback tank styling as our favorite! It got 253 votes!
This week I want to ask you about some of our summer dresses and see which ones you guys really like!
Check out the Night Out Dress, shown here in Butter.

Now have a look at our One Shoulder Banded Bottom Dress in Purple.

Next is our Best Night Out Dress in Hot Coral.

Finally, have a look at the Striped Halter Dress in Peach/Berry.

Well, now you’ve seen the dresses, which one do you like the most?

These pieces by Ulrik Martin Larsen are so carefully made and interesting! They look really intricate and delicate and yet the chains give a lot of them a very tough feel! They’re so inspiring – people have been doing such great things with chains lately! I also really, really like the one in the second picture down because of those little wood fingers along the edges! What do you guys think?

calling cards

The designs on these (very) old calling cards are gorgeous! I love the thought of a time when people would come see you, and leave cards to say they came by if you weren’t there, or to invite you to parties, or better yet, make romantic advances! Maybe sometime, somehow, calling cards will come back…
Anyhow, these beauties came from Dull Tool Dim Bulb – check it out for a few more.

This video is so funny and cool! It’s an old clip from the 1930′s, in which a few fashion designers predicted what they thought people would be wearing in the future! For being so far back as the 30′s, their predictions weren’t totally off base, I thought. Enjoy!

I’m really intrigued with these designs from up-and-coming designer Iris Van Herpen. They’re constructed with such unusual materials, and they’re so sculpturally interesting!

horse dress

Due in part to her fascination with the stage shows she saw as a girl in which the animals would come on stage with little outfits on, designer Hildegard Bergbauer, who usually designs for women, has started making Dirndl dresses for horses! The horse looks so cute in her dress! Hee hee! Check out Oddly Enough Blog for more.

DUDE, i must say i think this is absolutly blasphemous! What in the universe could posses you to do this to such a thing to such a beautiful, Bold, Sronge creature?
Robert Basler -May 23, 2009, 5:39PM
Hey, thanks for linking to my Oddly Enough blog item about the horse outfits. Please come back often and bring your friends. Bests, Bob Basler
