have you guys seen our new outfits page for july yet?! it’s awesome – you should check it out, when you hover over the images you can see a really cute little video :)
i love every single one of these looks. which of the following is your favorite??
i don’t know about you guys but i pretty much NEED every item in outfit two. the winner of last week’s bodysuit poll was the solid v tank bodysuit with 42% of the vote!
in april our team shot two catalogs- our first wholesale catalog, which was shot in california, and then our july catalog in colorado. here are some behind the scenes shots of them at work!
the july catalog was shot by benjamin alexander huseby and features models noot seear, linda vojtova and izzy marshall.
prior to opening our new store in costa mesa, ca, a couple of our display team members who work out on the west coast made a trip to the rose bowl flea market to pick up some props for the store. one of them shared her photos from the shopping excursion and i found myself practically drooling over the blankets, accessories and various little trinkets she found. philly needs a (monthly!!) flea market like this! i would be in heaven.
as mentioned, the photographer for our july catalog was the amazing benjamin alexander huseby – who also shot one of the most beautiful editorials i’ve seen for acne paper sweden, featuring model iselin steiro…
just across the mountains from telluride, dunton hot springs resort is a romantic ghost town set in an extraordinary alpine valley. it is described as a town that thrives on contradictions. the rugged, hand constructed exterior shields comfortable, exquisitely furnished rooms, and a saloon worn down over time by visitors serves fresh, mouth watering food. guests can take long, grueling hikes followed by soothing massages and look out at snowcapped mountains while resting weary bones in steaming natural hot springs.
our july catalog is now out! today i wanted to share some of the images and words that fp jemma put together about the inspiration behind this beautiful book…
the feeling:
wind swept, romantic with a ghostly bohemian spirit. horse riding and voodoo dancing in a wood smoked air.
the personality:
sweet and sultry with a native indian stroke. tasseled windy hair caught with braids of wisdom. they evoke the spirit of the wind, and wondrous journeys.
the styling – a mixture of military and american cool. fur, feathers, military tags, horns, work boots, leather bags.
the photographer: benjamin alexander huseby. ghostly and sun drenched. a feeling of nostalgia.

this catalog will have the impact of a stampede, hitting you right off your feet and into a world of “quilted dreams”
i have been dying to learn how to do this ever since i first saw it on some of the models on our website! watch as our makeup artist (and fishtail braid expert!) deanna demonstrates how to do a fishtail braid like the ones on our website and in the pages of our july catalog. featuring our lovely shoe buyer :)
in april 2010 our catalog team went to california to shoot our first wholesale catalog, and then road tripped to dolores, colorado to shoot our july catalog at the beautiful dunton hot springs. our wonderful producer put together this travel diary of their journey.
stay tuned for much more from behind the scenes of the catalog shoot ;)
our july catalog drops tomorrow! this beautiful book was shot at dunton hot springs in dolores, colorado and the result is stunning – i must say it is my favorite catalog to date. check out this magical behind the scenes video put together by our insanely talented videographer.
say hello to two of our sweet and adorable interns, carolina and nicole! they are going into their senior year of high school and have spent the last two weeks interning here at free people. these best friends had a unique and exciting internship that allowed them to experience several departments here at the home office. i spent a little time with them today to talk about their experience!
what was your favorite part of your internship here?
both: being in the photo studio! watching the stylists at work and seeing the models was really exciting.
nicole: i actually loved hanging up all the clothes when they were finished shooting with them! i loved getting to see all the beautiful clothing up close.
carolina: it’s been amazing, we’ll never get an experience like this again!
both: spending time with the designers was really cool too because we got to see just how much they do! they showed us items online that they had designed and you never really think about that, it’s crazy. we’re not the most talented with our hands and we tried to sew a sweater – it was a disaster.
talking about high school and proms with our senior stylist!
what is your dream job?
carolina: after this experience, i think i would love to be a designer or a buyer.
nicole: i would definitely want to be a stylist or buyer if i worked for a clothing company, but my dream has always been to be a doctor!
their collage of free people girls.
which free people girl are you?
nicole: i’m definitely lou during the day and ginger at night!
carolina: i think a little bit of all of them, except for lou.
nicole: you’re a mix of candy and ginger for sure :)
what is your favorite free people item?
nicole: i am completely obsessed with the coachella boots (pictured below on candy). they’re all i can think about. my dad finally agreed to get them for me as an early birthday present and i am SO excited!
carolina: i love the green motorcuff thermal (pictured below on lou)! but i want every color, i’d wear them all the time.
with one of our models :)
now check out the outfits they styled for each free people girl! they did an amazing job – i would wear every single one of these outfits.
