These adorable fashion illustrations are from the blog Fifi Lapin, which I just discovered and am totally in love with! It’s a fashion blog, and it follows Fifi, who is the world’s most stylish bunny according to Elle magazine – hehe! Other than the fashion illustrations and cute bunny storyline, Fifi does a nice job of showcasing a lot of current fashion. It’s worth scoping out!
Meet our latest featured Facebook friend – Samantha!
Samantha came to our attention after she posted some amazing photos that she took on her grandparents farm in North Carolina, in which she models her Pointillism Dress with the Diamond Crochet Halter Bralette. She took all the pictures herself with a timer, and had to run to get in the spot she wanted to be! They look great though! Samantha was kind enough to share the pictures with us and with you, and they are posted down below…
We also asked Samantha a few profile-type questions, just for fun! You might be surprised to learn that she is not a full time photographer, but actually a Geodetic Surveyor for an aerial mapping company. How cool is that?! Where do you live?
Anchorage, Alaska What do you do?
Haha, well, thats hard to explain! I’m a geodetic surveyor for an aerial mapping company. Basically, I take various data and turn them into something useful and cool to look at. I work in a field with a lot of big, gruff men so it’s a bit strange for everyone that I’m this tiny girl. I don’t fit the stereotype at all! What draws you to the Free People style?
I love the patterns and designs. I really love the farmer’s daughter collection! The styles are carefree, but well thought out. It’s about loving what you put on and feeling great in it. Free People brings out the girly side of me! As a college student I wasn’t concerned with what I wore and now I’m trying to break the habit of jeans and a sweatshirt everyday. I want to wear cute dresses and boots and dress them up with random pieces of jewelry! What is your favorite article of Free People vintage clothing?
Well, the dress in the photos is definitely my favorite- I immediately fell in love! But being in Alaska I won’t get to wear it as much. :(
I wear Free People jeans nearly every day (they fit so well) as well as my navy retro puff jacket. They are my faithful standbys! I wish I could replace my whole closet, because FP style fits so well with my personality and the style of clothes I would make if I could make them myself. Do you have any pets?
I have two tabby cats: Lucy is 3 years old and I recently got her a playmate Thomas who is 7 months (and already as big as Lucy!) I rescued Lucy from a shelter and Thomas from a foster mom. Lucy is such a trouble maker! Her favorite thing to play with are hairbands, but you have to watch her or she’ll eat them. She also greatly enjoys dragging my clothes out to the food dish. I named Thomas that because we have always had orange tabby cats named Tom in my family. They were all huge and very affectionate – which he is turning out to be! What inspires you?
I gather inspiration from a lot of things: traveling and learning, the creativity/ideas of others (I have a serious addiction to home decorating magazines), rummaging through my grandparents place for old items (I found an awesome collection of vintage buttons), and of course Free People- I find the photography as well as the clothes inspiring! What do you do in your spare time?
In the winter time? Hibernate! The rest of the time I like fishing, camping, sea kayaking, and beach combing. What do you like best about where you live?
Alaska is gorgeous and there is so much to do in the summertime! Summers are even better here because we get about 20 hours of daylight. In the winter the northern lights are out and they are always spectacular! Everyone should make a trip at some point in their lives to get up here- I’ve not met one person who didn’t love it. What do you like best about springtime?
The whole world is waking up. A few weeks ago the finches showed up at the bird feeder for the first time since winter started. I was just as excited as the cats! You can feel the energy and excitement of longer days, warmer weather, summer activities- it’s time to come out of hibernation!
Nicole, Pruitt and I made this video as we played with all of the different ways to wear the Free People chain vests. I love that just one piece can be worn as a necklace, a belt, a bracelet, a vest, or even to embellish your favorite boots!
What is your favorite way to style them?
Pick out your own from the four different styles on freepeople.com
How about this hoodie made partially from a blow-up doll by Mama Anders? I first noticed it because I thought it was funny to have a face on the back of your head, I didn’t realize it was a blow up doll until looking closer.
Mama Anders: I customize existing tracksuit tops with parts of the blow-up dolls…These dolls are so ugly and vulgar that turning them into something beautiful has become a challenge for me. The doll is a means to convey something else. Interesting!
Okay so I know this is slightly old, but I just found out a little bit ago that Christian Siriano, who won Project Runway a while back, designed a bunch of shoes and bags for Payless ShoeSource! Those are some of them above, and for only 25-45$ a pair, they look darn awesome! I’m pretty into this – and I think I will have to get a pair of the chained up shoes in the upper right corner. What do you guys think? Like or no?

Check out this cool video in which model Noot Seear shows off the inside of her closet! She has so many awesome items – I can’t get over it! She has very ‘boy’ taste – lots of plaids and studs, chains, leather, distressed denim – she’s like a We The Free poster girl! And speaking of, you may recognize Noot from our current catalog – she’s in it a whole bunch!
Massimo Gammacurta created these still life shots, which feature the logos of some famous fashion labels (I bet you know which ones!) as lollipops! Interesting, but mainly makes me want to go grab a dum-dum…
BleachBlack took this old tee and burned some holes it – and I love how it looks! She explains best what she did, so here is a quote: For starters, I think vintage tee’s with some sort of faded graphic work best… after all the point is for it to look lived in, right?! I would also make sure the tee is 100% cotton for best results. I used cigarettes, although I’m sure you could use some incense… just as long as it produces an ash. When the ash is sitting on the fabric it should burn from the center out and create this lovely burn color + hole.
Awesome! I can’t wait to try it the moment I get home from work today…
I’m finding these knit creations by Sandra Backlund really impressive. They are so visually interesting, complex and unique! I especially love the back of the fourth one, but they are all really gorgeous! Do you guys like them too? Have you ever seen anything like them?

P.S. Also check out these cool knits from Rödel Latin America, again via Ma Frangine…
Susie Bubble posted some pics from the new issue of Dazed and the styling is incredible! It’s not just about statement necklaces any more, these photos make me want to cover myself in dripping chains! Can’t wait to see the credits to learn who made all of this amazing jewelry.
Check out Susie’s commentary on the shoot and more photos
