i was looking around online last week for instructions on tie-dying easter eggs- as in this kind of tie-dye:

instead i found this.  i’ve never seen this before… apparently silk ties have another purpose- they can be used to create amazingly beautiful easter eggs! i found a great tutorial on our best bites that walks you through the process.

Hey there! Lana @ Store #827. I actually just did this the other night with my boyfriend! They turned out awesome. I left my blog link if you want to check out the pictures! xoxoxoxo
Chloe C -Apr 02, 2010, 12:53PM
boo hoo. I tried this, even followed the directions (shocking) my egg did not come out strong and clear like the ones in the pictures. I wonder what the variables are and how consistant the results are? I did make a different egg, continuing to make things out of catalogue pages. http://www.flickr.com/photos/chloe-and-ivan/4484532906/ I like the idea of the dye transfer, but it looks like the process needs some study. Thanks for sharing & inspiring!

Post image for we have a winner…

thanks to everyone who posted a comment telling us what color of the rainbow you are!

most of you have got the blues… blue had the most responses by far, followed by purple and green.

our winner, chosen at random, is leslie from ohio – who said she was “definitely green.” congrats leslie!

Post image for a take away film: uganda

La Blogotheque / Invisible Children from INVISIBLE CHILDREN on Vimeo.

stuff like this gives me chills…

invisible children and la blogotheque are taking the polyphonic spree, yeasayer and lykke li to uganda, where they will document a series of take away shows mixed with interviews and local events.  i love everything la blogotheque does and i especially love seeing musicians use their talent and fame to bring attention to important causes like this.  the documentary will be sold by invisible children to raise money for the cause – if you aren’t familiar with it, check out their website: invisiblechildren.com.

more info on the take away film can be found here: takeawayfilmuganda.com

the free people family extends far beyond the home office – the girls that work in our stores are amazing and they make shopping at the stores a special experience for everyone who walks in the door. today i’d like to introduce you to kim, from our torrance, CA store! read on to learn a little bit more about her and her personal style.

“i love delicate and light fabrics like lace, silk and chiffon.  i toughen it up by adding mixed-metal jewelry and accessories.  i am a juxtaposition of candy and lou by day and ginger by night!”

what is your theme song?

“head on” by the jesus and mary chain- this song gets me movin and groovin. (listen below!)

what is the one article of clothing you can’t live without?

even though i’m a fashion junkie, this is a surprisingly difficult question to answer- everything i own i can’t live without! for the sake of answering this question i will say my stuart weitzman suede ankle boots because i can wear them from dawn to dusk and still dance in them all night long.

what is your biggest fear?

dying young :(

winter, spring, summer or fall?

spring- a season of celebration, rebirth and dewy flowers.

Post image for dance anywhere

what if the whole world paused to dance?

that is what artist beth fein is asking. today, march 26, at noon in san francisco, 3pm in new york/philadelphia, 6pm in paris, etc…she wants everyone to stop what they’re doing, wherever they are, and start dancing.  any form of dance – even if you think you can’t dance at all. her goal is to blur the line that separates art and dance from our daily lives, and bring awareness to this art form that we are all free to express.  sounds like a brilliant idea to me…if you think about it, why should the joyous act of dancing be confined to certain spaces and times? i think it would improve your every day to let yourself go and dance no matter who is watching.

if you see anyone participate, or if you yourself choose to, let me know :)
