Post image for who’s that girl…

this is heidi – an adorable customer who came into our bucktown, chicago store already wearing our lightshow babydoll tank and raving about how much she LOVES free people! our fp girls got to know her while she had fun modeling some outfits for them…

where are you from?
toronto

what is it that draws you to free people?
i love the attention to detail!

what’s your favorite free people item in your closet?
i’m buying it right now! these jeans are amazing!

in case you’re wondering, heidi walked out with the FP destroyed skinny jeans she’s wearing in the photo. the other items she’s modeling with the jeans are the rib & lace tank in citron over the pucker up corset cami with the pacific coast jacket, and on the right she’s wearing the floral tiered halter dress. she looks great!

Post image for cherry blossom cheer

the girls who work in our virginia stores sent me the following writeup on an event taking place in their area that they love – the national cherry blossom festival!

on march 27th, people began to flock to the DC metropolitan area to witness a breathtaking event – the flowering of the cherry blossoms along the tidal basin! in 1912, japan gave the cherry blossom trees to the citizens of the united states a gift of friendship.  the cherry blossom festival is held every year – this year from march 27th until april 11th, and is located just 5 minutes from our free people store in clarendon, va, and 20 minutes from our tyson’s corner, va location. throughout the two-week festival, customers who visit the stores are inspired by the cherry blossoms, which symbolize the fresh, bright renewal that spring delivers.  the free people girl loves venturing into DC to enjoy the colorful blossoms blooming in her path and to fulfill her love of nature.

read more to see some stunning photos and a selection of free people items that evoke the spirit and beauty of the cherry blossoms!

Post image for lollapalooza lineup announced

the lollapalooza lineup is here!

green day and lady gaga? no thank you. soundgarden, arcade fire, strokes, phoenix, MGMT, jimmy cliff, black keys, national, spoon, grizzly bear, wolfmother, yeasayer, the XX, edward sharpe (and i could keep going)? YES PLEASE.

one of the hardest things about festival season is deciding which one to go to, because only in my wildest dreams can i attend them all. this just might be a lollapalooza year, although i still think the sasquatch lineup is the best… lollapalooza will take place august 6th-8th in grant park, chicago.

don’t forget to stay tuned to the blog as a couple of our girls are headed to coachella next weekend – and if you’re going, maybe we’ll see you there!

-Apr 07, 2010, 7:15PM
no lady gaga is the best.

Post image for wednes-diy

i was looking around online last week for instructions on tie-dying easter eggs- as in this kind of tie-dye:

instead i found this.  i’ve never seen this before… apparently silk ties have another purpose- they can be used to create amazingly beautiful easter eggs! i found a great tutorial on our best bites that walks you through the process.

Lana -Apr 03, 2010, 12:02PM
Hey there! Lana @ Store #827. I actually just did this the other night with my boyfriend! They turned out awesome. I left my blog link if you want to check out the pictures! xoxoxoxo
Chloe C -Apr 02, 2010, 12:53PM
boo hoo. I tried this, even followed the directions (shocking) my egg did not come out strong and clear like the ones in the pictures. I wonder what the variables are and how consistant the results are? I did make a different egg, continuing to make things out of catalogue pages. http://www.flickr.com/photos/chloe-and-ivan/4484532906/ I like the idea of the dye transfer, but it looks like the process needs some study. Thanks for sharing & inspiring!

Post image for we have a winner…

thanks to everyone who posted a comment telling us what color of the rainbow you are!

most of you have got the blues… blue had the most responses by far, followed by purple and green.

our winner, chosen at random, is leslie from ohio – who said she was “definitely green.” congrats leslie!

For me, blue is the colour of inspiration and creativity!

Post image for a take away film: uganda

La Blogotheque / Invisible Children from INVISIBLE CHILDREN on Vimeo.

stuff like this gives me chills…

invisible children and la blogotheque are taking the polyphonic spree, yeasayer and lykke li to uganda, where they will document a series of take away shows mixed with interviews and local events.  i love everything la blogotheque does and i especially love seeing musicians use their talent and fame to bring attention to important causes like this.  the documentary will be sold by invisible children to raise money for the cause – if you aren’t familiar with it, check out their website: invisiblechildren.com.

more info on the take away film can be found here: takeawayfilmuganda.com

“musical notes can be more powerful than bullets, and songs more powerful than bombs.”

thanks fp! this is an important issue and a great organization.
