i was looking around online last week for instructions on tie-dying easter eggs- as in this kind of tie-dye:
instead i found this. i’ve never seen this before… apparently silk ties have another purpose- they can be used to create amazingly beautiful easter eggs! i found a great tutorial on our best bites that walks you through the process.
invisible children and la blogotheque are taking the polyphonic spree, yeasayer and lykke li to uganda, where they will document a series of take away shows mixed with interviews and local events. i love everything la blogotheque does and i especially love seeing musicians use their talent and fame to bring attention to important causes like this. the documentary will be sold by invisible children to raise money for the cause – if you aren’t familiar with it, check out their website: invisiblechildren.com.
more info on the take away film can be found here: takeawayfilmuganda.com “musical notes can be more powerful than bullets, and songs more powerful than bombs.”
the free people family extends far beyond the home office – the girls that work in our stores are amazing and they make shopping at the stores a special experience for everyone who walks in the door. today i’d like to introduce you to kim, from our torrance, CA store! read on to learn a little bit more about her and her personal style.
“i love delicate and light fabrics like lace, silk and chiffon. i toughen it up by adding mixed-metal jewelry and accessories. i am a juxtaposition of candy and lou by day and ginger by night!”

what is your favorite hobby?

if you could spend a day with anyone – dead or alive – who would it be?
my dad, who passed away when i was 8 – i’d love to spend a day as daddy’s little girl!
that is what artist beth fein is asking. today, march 26, at noon in san francisco, 3pm in new york/philadelphia, 6pm in paris, etc…she wants everyone to stop what they’re doing, wherever they are, and start dancing. any form of dance – even if you think you can’t dance at all. her goal is to blur the line that separates art and dance from our daily lives, and bring awareness to this art form that we are all free to express. sounds like a brilliant idea to me…if you think about it, why should the joyous act of dancing be confined to certain spaces and times? i think it would improve your every day to let yourself go and dance no matter who is watching.
if you see anyone participate, or if you yourself choose to, let me know :)
a dog bed made of free people bags! our store manager in greenwich sent me the following photos and blurb that was so cute i had to share…
alison is from new york city and is one of our favorite customers in greenwich connecticut. she saved and recycled our free people shopping bags to make a bed for her dog! alison cut the fabric into small pieces and wrapped it carefully around a wire cord to create a base for the bed. she then continued to double the wire cord and wrap the free people fabric strips around as she built the bed walls. we think it looks amazing and her dogs are very happy campers!
alison made the bed for chelsea, the english cocker spaniel pictured above – but her other dog, ollie (below), likes to steal it because it’s so comfy!
those dogs do look very content! i love this project…it also sort of reminds me of the rag rugs we posted a little while ago (here). hmmm…maybe you could make a rag rug out of free people bags??
music festival season is underway! sxsw was just the beginning…next up is coachella, followed by sasquatch, bonnaroo, lollapalooza, outside lands…phew. that’s a lot of festivals. but i love them, and i try to attend one every year. there is something so freeing about losing yourself to the music and dancing among a sea of people. if i could go back in time i would want to live in the sixties so i could go to woodstock and monterey pop…and there’s a spirit in the air at music festivals that feels so reminiscent of that time.
are you attending any music festivals this year? leave a comment and let me know! we may try to get to that one too…
