Post image for Blogger Diary: Birthdays and Photography

“How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?”

My birthday was last week… its funny how as you get older, you start to worry about birthdays more, and want to acknowledge them less. I’ve always felt that the day itself doesn’t really hold much significance, but whenever it comes around I think of it as a time to reflect on the past year, and also think about the year ahead and what I want to do with it.

My dad got me a new camera. As someone who once aspired to be a professional photographer, and built a darkroom in his parents basement, he appreciates photography and has always been incredibly supportive of my little “hobby.” I’ve taken photography classes in the past, but with film, not digital – and this year I want to make a conscious effort to work on it.

So over the past week I’ve been playing around with the new camera a lot, and using it to capture little bits of what I’ve been up to…

blogger-diary

My friend made homemade apple cider using tea-bags filled with spices (and a little bit of rum)… YUM!

blogger-diary

And after several months of living in my current apartment, I FINALLY got around to hanging up some artwork! The fish is by my sister’s super talented boyfriend; one of my best friends had the painting on the left below done of my shore house –the sweetest gift I’ve ever gotten.

I spent some time yesterday working on a DIY with these fun colors of embroidery floss! Can’t wait to share :)

blogger-diary

And lastly, I thought I’d share a few of the Free People items i can’t stop wearing lately! The velvet extreme flares are the most comfortable, luxurious pants I’ve ever worn – they’re getting a lot of wear this season. My sister got me the marled yarn pullover in this lovely wine color and it’s my new favorite sweater! And technically my Gola sneakers are from February of last year when we sold them before, but I still love them just as much today and am contemplating getting another color… put together these items make a cute outfit too!

And, my kitten Jam, who always wants to be the center of attention :)

Oh and to answer the question I started with… I think I would think I’m in my early twenties. How about you??

Post image for Guest Post: Philadelphia Style Through Swedish Eyes

Our friend Elsa of the blog Styleabaad put together this awesome guest post. Enjoy!

Philadelphia Style Through Swedish Eyes

If Stockholm was a garment it would without a doubt be a black leather jacket – classic, chic and a safe style bet. Philadelphia on the other hand would be something more complex, like a multicolored romper – experimental, colorful and a bit risky.

Moving from my native Sweden to Philadelphia was a cultural shock in several ways. Never had I talked to strangers in elevators before or got a compliment for my hat from someone on the street. I also quickly realized that when my beau and I went out for a bite at night people thought we were attending a black tie event rather than having an evening snack. The 60’s vintage silk dresses I felt so comfortable wearing for dinners in Stockholm suddenly made me feel like a snob in the bar next to people in flannel shirts and flip-flops.

Stockholm is known worldwide for it’s phenomenal street style and I couldn’t agree more. The streets are crowded with well-groomed guys in slim fitted jeans and 5.8 ft. women looking like they’ve just stepped out of an edgy editorial. However Sweden has always been a homogenous society, at least compared to the multicultural United States. This may be the reason why I’ve always thought that the Stockholm style was so uniform; everyone seems to have such similar idea of fashion, to the degree that I’m wondering where the creativity is. Maybe the carbon copy fashion is in our Swedish genes because of our society’s homogenous history… but one style fits all? I don’t believe so.

In Philadelphia I found myself reinventing my style. I had been detoxed of the minimalistic and formal Stockholm style and now felt this new city inviting me to express my personal style. Philadelphia is such a diverse city. Cultures, styles and trends all blend into a mix that might not necessarily be the most trendy but has influenced me to experiment more with how I dress. In Philadelphia I dress more casual, I wear more colors and I care way less about what everyone else is wearing. I’m thankful for the inspiration my new city has given me and I kind of like what my personal style has transformed into. In fact I’ve never expressed myself more through my style than I do today.

Post image for Store Style: Snow Angel

The latest trend we can’t get enough of is Snow Angel. With a new chilliness to the air and less hours of sunshine in the day, we’re brightening our spirits with shades of pink, ivory and icy blue and cozy, comfy textures that warm our souls. Winter doesn’t have to be about black, gray and deep tones, it can be as light and airy as the snow outside :)  This trend makes me think of sledding all day, rosy cheeks, icicles and candy canes!

Here are some of our beautiful store girls rocking the snow angel trend.

A dreamy shot… wearing the scallop strapless dress with a sweater and adorable faux fur arm warmers.

We adore the new romantics embellished romper! Worn here with the cropped cardigan and a beanie.

The embellished romper also looks awesome with the anita faux fur jacket!

On the left, the scallop lace tube dress with the amazing casablanca cape and faux fur arm warmers; on the right, the voile and lace slip worn with tights, legwarmers, the kimono cardigan and adorable ear flap beanie.

A perfect holiday party dress: the new romantics foiled maxi; get the goddess look by adding a head piece :)

snow-angel

LOVE this look: fp spun sequin knit short, tights, fp one smocked beaded bandeau, plaid shirt, beanie and arm warmers.

Here’s a thought – the embellished romper with the fp one smocked beaded bandeau over top! Accessorized with a beanie and bracelets.

snow-angel

Wear the sequin bodycon with the faux fur jacket, weather boots and floppy hat!

snow-angel

Love this pairing of embellished romper with the fairisle maxi cardigan over top!

snow-angel

This is a great idea – the fp one smocked beaded bandeau turned backwards, peeks out from under the lurex crochet top.

Snow Angel textures: fairisle triangle scarf, faux fur jacket, icy embellished dress, charm and chain cluster necklace, new romantics chiffon capelet.

Our much-loved voile and lace slip in all its pretty colorways.

And our favorite snow angel layering piece, the fp one smocked beaded bandeau!

Post image for Blogger’s Diary – The sweet scent of Fall

This weekend I enjoyed the feeling of Fall, the leaves have turned all fiery here in Philly. The rustic leaves brings a vintage feel, a feeling of age and decay that I’m drawn to; throughout my life I’ve loved the juxtaposition of the beautiful and the ugly finding old buildings and seeing the beauty in them. This nostalgic feeling comes flowing into me during fall – the trees decay ready to transform into something beautiful come spring. I kinda love that.

After a scrumptious brunch at one of my favorite restaurants here in Philly “Parc” that recalls the chic brasseries of Paris and a long walk in my vintage French military boots I returned home and got be-dazzled by party hats for these coming festive months – DIY soon perhaps!

Happy Monday all!!

Post image for Guest Post from New Zealand

With all this talk of New Zealand and Australia here at the home offices I’ve been thirsting to learn more about the area. The wildlife and natural world I see in photographs has always intrigued me, but I wanted to know – what are the best spots, and what are the experiences actually like? So, when Soné Moriarty, a native New Zealander now living in Qatar, sent over a link to her blog (Polli Blog) I knew she’d be the perfect person to ask. With a passion for the simple pleasures in life, she seemed like a good, down-to-earth woman who could point me to the right things. Read through below on some of her favorite experiences and spots from the island country of New Zealand.

I am Soné Moriarty a Graphic designer and blogger from New Zealand. My blog is an inspirational online scrapbook of fashion, photography and my personal life.

Before starting this blog post I really had to narrow down all the pictures I had on my computer. So many good memories, so many beautiful places and so many things I love about New Zealand, the list is endless.

My favourite time of the year would have to be summer. It’s the time of the year where me and my hubby usually setup a backpack and a small tent to go camping along the coastal sides of New Zealand.

All you need is a bottle of wine, chips and dip, a flower crane and a guitar. As most of the camping sites are free and you’re able to wake up next to the beach and enjoy a warm cup of coffee.

fern

Summer time is the best times to also find really good vintage buys. You can find the most beautiful vintage summer dresses and leather satchels in some of the smallest towns. Which is a raging trend at the moment! I always try to snatch up the peter-pan collared dresses which is almost impossible, yet so exciting when you do find one.

Hawks Bay is one of my favourite hot spots in New Zealand. Not only are you surrounded by vineyards but I love to go strawberry picking and strolling through a few local art and crafts stores in town.

Visiting the local Farmers markets is usually a must, as you’re able to stock up your cupboards with loads of fresh and organic local produce. My “have to get list” are usually, cherries, feijoas, strawberries, pineapples and mango’s and let’s not forget the ice cream.

Another must on your list would have to enjoy brunch at a boutique coffee shop called “French Tart” in Hamilton. I love meeting friends there for a vanilla shot coffee after a long weeks of work to unwind.

roadtrips

I hope you feel inspired and energized to make a trip to New Zealand. And as a reminder to all, don’t leave home without your camera, its precious memories like these that makes who we are.

Be sure to check out her blog for more! Thank you, Soné!
