a few of you have asked about the amazing rope swirl tapestries in our new store displays and you’re in luck because one of our display artists put together a tutorial on how to make them! it looks like such a fun rainy day project.
what you need: a large piece of cardboard, black marker, scissors, rope in various sizes and colors, neon twine, pompoms.
use a variety of different colors and textures to create a fun swirl – these purple and orange tassels are just another piece of string woven in with the others!
once you’ve got it down, you can make a whole bunch in different sizes and colors, to create a whole wall tapestry just like the ones in our stores :) i can’t wait to try this!

australia’s gold coast is located in south east queensland, on the country’s eastern shore. with 35 miles of coastline that includes some of the most popular surf breaks in australia and the world, the area has been a huge draw for both tourists and surfers all over the world. it was also inspiration for a special shop launching today on our website that is our nod to surfer girls everywhere – denim shorts in bright colors, easy knits, bathing suits, summery shoes and pops of neon, its a collection that screams summer fun and adventure.
for her second guest post for us, mandy of the amazing blog oracle fox went down to the gold coast and took some beautiful photos to capture the atmosphere there. i am thinking a trip to australia is definitely in order!
all images by oracle fox – thank you so much mandy!
and here’s a little collection i made inspired by the gold coast. click on the image to go see more details, and check out our gold coast shop here.
i am in love with all of our new patterned and colorful shoes for summer! how could you not be happy with any of these on your feet? i’ve already decided which pair i want :) which ones are your favorite?
Here’s a delish breakfast for those of you in search of a good way to surprise your mom for mothers day. If you missed breakfast, well, who doesn’t like brupper (breakfast for supper)? Either way, she’ll think you’re the best kid in the entire world.
Ingredients (makes 8 six inch waffles):
2 cups almond milk (vanilla or plain), or any non-dairy milk
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
2 cups whole wheat pastry flour (all purpose works, too)
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons ground flax seeds
1/2 cup water
3 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup sliced bananas
1 cup sliced almonds
2 cups greek yogurt (can leave out the yogurt or use non-dairy yogurt if you want to leave the breakfast entirely vegan)
Combine almond milk and apple cider vinegar, set aside to curdle.
Combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl.
Add the flax seeds to milk mixture and mix vigorously until frothy (approx. 30sec-1min)
Add milk mixture, water, olive oil, maple syrup, vanilla, and half of the bananas to flour mixture. Mix with a wooden spoon until mostly combined then fold in half of the almonds until all ingredients are moistened.
Preheat waffle iron and let the batter rest. Cook according to waffle iron directions. Be sure to spray waffle iron with oil or cooking spray between each waffle.
Garnish with extra bananas, almonds, and a spoonful of yogurt. (as an idea, drizzle the whole thing with honey instead of maple syrup, it’s so good!)

saturday was a beautiful day in philly, the perfect day to take a long walk around the city. my destination was broad street, for the philadelphia international festival of the arts (PIFA) street fair taking place all day long. i took the long route from my place in old city and walked through my favorite neighborhood, society hill. it’s such a charming part of the city – full of historic buildings, red brick, adorable town homes with front stoops and the occasional cobble-stoned street.
passed this adorable little park hidden behind brick walls, that i’d never seen before!
this guy was going around asking people to wear a mask of his face for a photo, for a school project. after obliging, i asked him to do the same :)
i finally made it to broad street where there was a palpable excitement in the air. two stages with live music, street performers, food vendors, a ferris wheel and more lined the avenue of the arts for the PIFA street fair, with this year’s inspiration coming from paris in the early 20th century.
this contraption was attached to a giant crane that lifted it in the air for a performance by la compagnie trans express, which, sadly, i did not get to see.
i noticed a crowd of people gathered around something and went closer to find them taking pictures of…a vine?
and then the vines started to move.
they are a part of a performance art group called “the living vines,” and it was probably one of the coolest things i saw at the street fair.
the way they twisted and contorted themselves was so amazing…i literally couldn’t take my eyes off of them!
sometimes the most random days end up being the best :)
