Post image for Simple Lemon Honey Salad Dressing

I always seem to be drawn to complexity — I love constructing outfits with layers on layers; filling my home with curated clutter; and that weird feeling that surrounds my head when trying to pick apart the universe, life, and what happens before and after — but in a world filled with so much of everything… oftentimes simplicity is what we crave. I will have to try this ...

I make this salad dressing all the time- it goes well with everything! I love using it on a shaved brussels sprouts salad with dried cranberries, feta, and slivered almond. The mix of textures and flavors is divine.

Post image for You Are What You Eat

It’s a phrase that I’ve heard for years upon years, but one that never quite made any sense to me: You are what you eat. Am I today a bowl of udon noodles? Was I last night a plate of quinoa and sauteed kale? An avocado in the morning and a bean burrito by noon? But after one fateful yoga class, it will now forever make sense to me. Read more »

It looks yummy and you can really see the the thick consistency of this smoothie. Guess that's what avocado is for, it is so creamy yet very chocolatey. I should try this as soon as possible. HA HA.

I have made a different variation of this but will try the one above. I am soaking hazelnuts right now to make it with my home made hazelnut milk because this just screams "Nutella" flavor to me ;) I have the raw cocoa powder and maple syrup and can't wait to try this !! My previous version included Fage yoghurt which obviously makes it non-vegan. Thanks for the post!
Simba -Jun 30, 2014, 7:10PM
I made for my breakfast and I absolutely loved it , I added fresh strawberries and banana with a little dollop of honey because I found it a bit unsweetened . I can definitely see my self doing this again in the future , possibly with different variations

Post image for 5-Minute Mug Brownie (Vegan & Gluten-Free)

There are few things, in my eyes, that beat the taste of a freshly baked brownie. Warm, dense, chocolatey, and just a tad undercooked… Pure sweet bliss. Read more »

This looks delicious, but what is with the dead leaves? For a cheaper brownie alternative, I don't want the image of something tasting ashy and musty...

Jalapeños have more vitamin C than an orange! I read this little tidbit on a chalk board in Bad Boy Burrito in Key West.

Post image for Recipe: Red Velvet Cake With Beets

Made this cake two times following the recipe perfectly. Recipe does not work. No way did this blogger achieve that red color without the use of food coloring and/or photoshop. I am an experienced baker and work in food media. The first time it didn't work, I chocked it up to user error. When it didn't work a second time, I knew it was the recipe itself. I ended up with a slightly reddish/pinkish brown color. The cake itself was rather bland too.
Sara -Feb 22, 2014, 8:03AM
I tried the recipe yesterday, because it looks really awesome, and I followed step by step. I even had trouble finding some of the ingredients, such as the coconut oil (in Spain is not very common and it was really expensive, by the way). I didn't miss any of the steps and ingredients (all room temperature) and I didn't get this perfect red velvet colour, in fact it ended being brown, so upset for this... Because I was willing to make this cake since I don't remember when :(

I love the nutty smell it gives off and when I use it to cook I get a smoother, more even taste. Works great for sautéing. I use it when I make mushroom and onion rice, and it definitely makes me feel less guilty than butter or other oils.
Amber -Jun 18, 2014, 10:27AM
My favorite use of ghee is in my coffee, yes coffee. I pour my cup of coffee (black) into the blender, add a spoonful of ghee and whip it up! It gives it the most amazing butterscotch taste that will keep you full all morning if you're in a rush. Best of all no tummy aches after.
